    Default Your Favorite 'Fables' Character

Another thread for "Fables" fans -- one that probably has been done before, but I couldn't find it ...

What are your favorite character from that series? Why?

Of course, there are main characters like Bigby that almost everyone has to admire. Of the others, I have three particular favorites:

    * Little Boy Blue -- smart, boyish charm ... an all-around good guy with bravery and cunning, to boot.

    * Reynard the fox -- Can't put my finger on it, but Reynard appealed to me since his pivotal role in the Farm revolutionary saga. Another bright character.

    * Pinnochio -- The bad boy with the heart of golden wood. He had the hands-down funniest line in the series after he was revived in the Homelands, looked at Gepetto, and wondered aloud if the "old perv" had been playing with him.

Bluebeard - The wealthy, ruthless schemer of the lot, serving as the villain of the piece while the Adversary was still more a concept and mystery than a character. I was well and truly surprised when Bluebeard got killed by Prince Charming, as I thought that a full-on Bluebeard vs. Snow and Bigby feud was in the cards instead. I miss him, but luckily the series is crammed with lots of other great characters to fill the space...

Jack of Fables - ....such as Jack of Fables, so awesome that he has his own solo series now. Favorite arc was his Hollywood adventure, creating a trilogy of films about himself, and his subsequent banishment from the Fabletown community when they discovered what he'd been up to.

Prince Charming - I underestimated him as just a comic-relief womanizer until he upended Bluebeard. He's grown a lot more as a character since becoming Mayor of Fabletown, but I like that he retains the ego, self-obsession and superficiality in the process.

Flycatcher. I origianlly loved him for his comedy relief. Then we found out why Bigby had to keep indebted, and he got more interesting. Then I read his story in 1,001 Nights of Snowfall and tried not to cry. He's my favorite, followed closely by Bigby & Blue.

Bufkin - because how can anyone resist a good monkey who hardly ever flings his poop any more.

After Bufkin, the characters I have a special fondness for are Cinderella (because smart-alecky kickass females rock) and Beast, who I think is growing into Fabletown's stabilizing leadership role (like Snow was)

Frau Tottenkinder...just deliciously evil, but works for the good guys. Besides you just know that she'll be the one that will undermine Gepetto's plans to destroy the Mundy world. She'll pull some wicked spell from her sleeve and that will be that.
I hope this 911 is for real and not just on tv.

Prince Charming - because narcissistic, conniving pretty boys are such fun characters. They remind me of me.

Beauty and the Beast - because their relationship is cute, and I enjoy seeing Beast trying to piss Beauty off anytime he needs to hulk up.

Frau Tottenkinder and Mowgli. Both are really badass.

Also, I love the take on Goldilocks.

And I hope they do something interesting with Rupunzel.

Frau Totenkinder is one of a kind, I agree: as Estee noted previously, a thoroughly bad apple on the side of the angels. You don't see that a lot in ANY kind of fiction.

I liked Jack's years as the asshole du jour Hollywood mogul, but that rascal has little personal appeal for me -- to the point I would not be tragically crushed if he were to be killed or disappeared. I know my feeling isn't popular, but there is something about Jack that pushes me away ...

I like Bigby, Frau, Blue Boy, and Flycatcher. I'd put them as my favorites.

However, I also enjoy what's been done with Rose Red's character. I like that she's grown into her new role as head of the farm.

I also think Vulco and the other crow brothers are hawt-ness personified... or bird-ified.

That's another way this series surprised me: Rose Red keeping the lid on the "Sunni Triangle" of Fabledom.

King Cole: he comes off as a bumbling idiot, but diplomacy with the Arabian Fables made my admiration of him grow. Of course, I think the Snow White and Bigby combo is fantastic. Also, North Wind is a pretty intriguing character, too.

Snow White goes without saying; I've never been as fond of the Big Bad Wolf as some, but he's a lot of fun as well.

Frau Totenkinder (that's "Mrs. Child-Death" or something approximating that, right?); you can't escape the feeling that she'll turn on them any second, but she seems devoted to the community all the same. Her duel with Baba Yaga was fantastic.

King Cole; for a lot of the series he was a bit of a joke, then a semi-tragic character (despite his somewhat corrupt governance); he really came into his own in the "Arabian Nights (and Days)" story.

Prince Charming; once you get past the initially fun reimagining of his character (a lot like Bernard Cornwell's Lancelot, although less of a total bastard), his term as mayor has been very interesting, and he's actually demonstrated good strategic planning skills.
