Default Which X-Man Should Be Next To Fly Solo?

We've had Gambit, Rogue, Bishop, Storm, Jubilee, and of course Wolverine, not to mention Cyclops and Phoenix, Kitty, Iceman and Beast featured in their own mini or ongoing, but who should be next - and what kind of take would you like to see on the character?

I think it might be fun to see Forge set up shop with Madison Jeffries from Alpha Flight, see what technological marvels they couldn't cobble together. With Diamond Lil there for Madison, and perhaps Omega Sentinel as Forge's new love interest/pet project. This would be most fun with them up against the clock to prevent some disater or another using their intellect and wits. Maybe they could nick the monicker of Mekanix, if CC is through with it?

I think Betsy would make for a good solo series. She could deal with her "death" some more and do a lot of other cool stuff (I'm tired and I can't think of what that stuff would be right now)

I know she's Exiles bound, but oh well.

Or maybe we could reprise Dani Moonstar: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D., natch. A depowered double agent living off her wits to uncover the truth of what is happening inside S.H.I.E.L.D. and throw her superiors off the scent of her non-registered allies. Dani would want to be doing something at this time, and having been slapped in the face by Emma et al, S.H.I.E.L.D. seems like a next logical stopping off point for her.

Solo books don't sell that well. But I would adore a mini featuring Beast, Iceman, and Wonder Man. :)

Most of individual members of the X-Men just does not do well in any solo book because they function best within the team dynamic.

It might be interesting to do a Cannonball mini. He could tell the team he needs a break to grieve for Jay, and then go off on his own personal adventure.

since the OP mentioned both ongoings and minis, and there have been many, many wonderful X-minis out there, I'll nominate a Jean mini, dealing with her return to the pages of Marvel Comics.

It could start out cosmic- depending on the fallout to Annihilation which admittedly I haven't been following- as she makes her way back to Earth. When she finally arrives in the last couple issues, she can have her tearful reunion with the X-men, but also a statement that she isn't ready to come back to the fold, that there really isn't a place for her there right now. In the climactic finale, she and the Phoenix Force are separated, and all that remains is Jean, the most powerful psi on the planet.

Then make her an Avenger. One of the good ones.

You'd better toss in the Human Torch if you go that direction. :D

I don't think anyone's complaining about a lack of X-books, although I've been thinking recently that an Iceman ongoing could be good.

Aside from that a Phoenix ongoing may be a good idea whenever Jean Grey returns from the dead. It allows her to deal with the ramifications of her resurrection, provides writers a place for the cosmic X-characters, and builds up interest in her eventual reunion with the New X-men.

The writers of any solo book need to justify its unique existence, and need a plan for the series. And they should have good stories which wouldn't work as just an arc of an X-Men book.

Jean's not dead. She's in the White Hot Room regathering her pieces.

It just bugs me. Still hoping for the Jean appearance in Warsong to remind folks. :p
