    Default Exiles #89

For crying out loud! Where's the thread on this???

Clearly a top note to go out on. Not only does it feature the return of a fan-favorite, but it's done with respect - not mutilating the memory of the character like a lot of writers would have done. (Even if it wouldn't be intentional.) And the fact that it was Cal's art only sealed the deal.

I would have expected myself to be disappointed that it ended without bringing T-Bird out of the wall, or to his home reality, or to consciousness, or anything like that. But the *way* it was all done made up for T-Bird being in the same place physically as he was at the beginning of the issue. It was also nice to not see the spotlight strictly on T-Bird. The subplot dealing with Proteus' situation was worked in well and it all flowed together so naturally.

Probably my favorite issue since the last face-off with Hyperion.
I've got a great idea. How about we keep blaming the other party. Yeah. That's healthy.

    Glad you liked it!

I was going for some sort of irony in that T-Bird's inner life turns out to be better than the Exiles' day-to-day existence.

Anyhow, EXILES was definitely a blast, but I've got some very interesting things brewing at DC these days, so I hope you'l check them out, too!

All this book does is break my heart. You have these fabulous imaginative characters with real feeling and bonds and you kill them. I fall in love with the relationships they develop and the hardships through which they prevail and then their dead or in stasis. Every time I pick up this book I'm scared that one of my beloved comic friends is going to murdered or maimed. I love it. Thank you.

Don't worry too much about it - they'll probably be back as Marvel Zombies.

I just want to thank you, Mr. Bedard, for the stories you wrote in Exiles, including #89. I think with the Surfer arc and this final story you finished at the top of your game. You will be missed.

Now, when something you've done is about to come out, let use know. I missed your JSA Classified arc largley because I didn't know you'd written it.

Oh, and what happened with Avengers?

Not sure what you mean by "what happened with Avengers". My Marvel Adventures Avengers came out...or at least I think they've all come out. To be honest, probably not my best work, but it turns out that it's harder to do a good done-in-one young readers book than I exxpected. :o

As for upcoming stuff, right now it's all at DC and there is some pretty exciting stuff on the horizon, most of which I can't talk about yet. Publishers like to make their own announcements, and with good reason.

Suffice to say, I have two different 4-issue projects that should rock, both with great artists, and I have an upcoming regular gig that will definitely make a big impact. I'll tell you more as soon as I can, but suffice to say that DC is a very interesting place these day, riding its most creative and energized publishing effort since the glory days of 1986, and I'm totally stoked to be in the mix over there!

The Avengers reference was just in regards to you not being on the mag anymore. Maybe your run was supposed to be as short as it seemed?

I guess I'll just have to my eyes peeled for your DC stuff. Maybe it'll mean there will be something from DC I'd be willing to get.:)

    Word of the issue, "flexeramics".

I enjoyed it and I can't wait to see what pops up at DC.
