    Default Favorite Dance Songs?

I've been putting together playlists for a New Year's Eve party and an upcoming family holiday party, so I've been reviewing a lot of "best dance songs" lists.

Which got me thinking, what are one or two of your favorite dance songs?

Are they classics? Or something more recent or obscure?

I enjoy really dancing music. It is a passion of my. When I go out bludgeoning I frequently listen to. But that is not frequently (catch the woordspeling, heh heh). Comics and dancing, big one? That is one thing which is not appropriate. The Council leaves. Now!

Speaking of Daft Punk, "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" by LCD Soundsystem is a fun and lightly funky dance song.

I'll give you a longer list in a bit, but for now, here's a few great dance songs that either aren't that well-known or aren't that often played at dances:

"Move Your Feet" - Junior Senior
"Danger: High Voltage" - Electric Six
    "Step Aside" - Sleater-Kinney
"Hair of the Dog" - Nazareth
    "I'm Outta Love" - Anastasia
"Groove Is in the Heart" - DeeLite
    "Rockafella Skank" - Fatboy Slim
    "Humpty Dance" - Digital Underground
"Hot Hot Hot" - Buster Poindexter
"High Heel Sneakers" - Tommy Tucker
    "Atomic Dog" - George Clinton
"Shake It Like a White Girl" - EU
"Let It Whip" - Dazz Band
"Burn Rubber" - Gap Band (make sure and crank up the volume at the beginning of the song)

    and more...

"House of Jealous Lovers" - Rapture
"Heart of the City" - Nick Lowe
"Pretty in Pink" - Psychedelic Furs
    "99 Luftballoons" - Nena
"One Way or Another" - Blondie
    "Venus" - Bananarama

    "I Feel 4 You" - Chaka Khan

Try looking up the Scissor Sisters

"Take Your Mama" and "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" are the first two songs that come to mind for me.
So, there's this thing NEW! 5/3/13

Seconded. Both of those are great dance songs.

Now, Mattbib, if your crowd likes rap/hip-hop or older funk/R&B, I can give another list chock full o' dance songs.

Anything by Angel City or Daft Punk.

Also, most of the late 90's UK Garage scene is strongly influenced by dance and is good for parties.

I know it's an old classic, but Respect by Areatha Franklin could make a corpse want to get up and shake it!

Okay, before this thread this is what I knew about Tish, zip, zero, nada.
I now know that Tish is a heavily armed, black, bi-sexual, truck driving woman who likes going to the clubs.

This makes me think of a sequence in It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken, where Seth talks about DJing a party with a bunch of awesome dance tunes from the 20s and 30s, and his naivete in expecting everyone would be able to see the beauty and joy in them and dance. Mostly everyone just stood around wondering what the hell that crap was. That's almost always been my experience in making a dance mix too, until someone else ejected my disc and threw in Jock Jams or whatever.

So I won't give any recommendations beyond making sure that the people at your party know and like the music you'll be playing. (Not mattbib, whose party is over by now. More generally, I think.)

I've always hated dance parties and I think it's mainly because the standard rhythm of popular dance music is flat, square 4/4 time, which to me seems like the most boring thing possible to dance to.
