Default What are you looking forward to in 2007 for Spider-Man?

There will obviously be potential spoilers, in case anyone's guesses turn out to be true.
And this is also the place to post what you know will happen in 2007 (ie- the stuff revealed in various interviews.)

According to Joe Quesada 2007 is going to be a helluva year for Spider-Man.
    http://www.newsarama.com/NewJoeFrida...Fridays27.html

JQ: Oh yeah, and then there’s Spider-Man. We have some fantastic Spider-Man announcements coming soon and I promise you, the amount of chatter that will be spouted on message boards, blogs, emails, what have you, will be unlike anything ever seen before in the comic’s history. Guess what, folks, save time, start writing those cards and letters now! [laughs]

Also, write this down, folks. In August of next year, we’re going to be breaking the Internet in half so hard that Al Gore is going to wake up with an ache somewhere he’s most likely never ached before.

NRAMA: Because we speak to you nearly every week, we can look back at the year based not only on what you published, but what we talked about. We spent a lot of time talking about your view of Peter Parker’s marital status but as of today, December 22nd, 2006, nothing has changed. Was it all just discussion of theory, or we still waiting on the practice?

JQ: I think you know guys me well enough to know that I don’t just say anything for no reason [winks]. Now, sometimes that reason may be to foreshadow something or sometimes that reason may be to distract folks from what’s actually coming their way. So, let me just leave it at this, 2007 is Spider-Man’s year, these just no other way to put it.

It was already clear that some big stuff is going to happen to the character.
    1. Spider-Man 3.
    2. JMS's final Amazing Spider-Man storyline.
    3. The "One More Day" crossover hyped as the event which will change Spider-Man forever.
    4. A new writer on Amazing Spider-Man
    5. The return of the black costume
    6. Mark Bagley's final issues of Ultimate Spider-Man
    7. Stuart Immoment's first issues of Ultimate Spider-Man
    8. An omnibus collecting the entire Lee/ Ditko run.
    9. A Visionaries TPB for Roger Stern (bout damn time!)
    10. Jeph Loeb/ J Scott Campbell's still un-named project.
    11. Peter David's take on Sandman, and the conclusion to his "Evil Uncle Ben" mystery.
    12. Venom and the Green Goblin in the Thunderbolts.

So- what are your predictions/ hopes/ fears about the Spider-Man franchise for the next year? I'll post mine in a bit.

    My Guesses

    1. Spider-Man 3 will make more money than Spider-Man 1 (it seems like it'll have more action than the first two films, and more reasons to watch it several times.)
    2. J Michael Stracynci will do the stories he's been setting up from the beginning. He'll probably tie up the loose ends of "The Other." I expect Peter's radiation sickness in that storyline will be explained in further detail, and revealed as the result of his radiation overdose from the first battle with Morlun.
    3. "One More Day" will be the highlight of JMS's Spider-Man career, topping his first nine issues. It will end with the world forgetting Spider-Man's secret identity, which causes Peter & Mary Jane to have never been married. Fans will be outraged, until they see the good stories the writers will get out of the situation.
    4. Joe Quesada will pick someone good to follow JMS, who will win over fans of JMS, and the people who have hated his work. Best analogue I can think of is Ed Brubaker following Bendis on Daredevil. I'm hoping it's Millar, but I'm sure it'll be someone good. It may lead to relaunches of all the SPider-Man titles, with new creative teams which I honestly wouldn't mind.
    5. Black Costume will be good by "One More Day"
    6. Mark Bagley ends his Spider-Man run with a quieter well-received issue, probably dealing with Peter & MJ.
    7. For some reason I believe Immomen's first arc will involve Venom, given the villain's role in Spider-Man 3, and Bendis knowing he's gotta provide buzz for the title to avoid a drop in sales.
    8. The Lee/ Ditko omnibus wil be an excellent collection (who here is expecting anything else) popular enough for Marvel to follow it with a Lee/ Romita omnibus, and a Todd Macfarlane omnibus (although I doubt I'll see both of them in 2007.)
    9. I'm really hoping the Roger Stern Visionaries volume to be a success (and I expect it to be a modest one), but I think it was a mistake for Marvel not to start with his more acclaimed Amazing Spider-Man run as that could easily be split into two $25 12 issue volumes, and contains the story Stern is best known for.
    10. I think Loeb's story will follow the success of Hush, and feature Spider-Man fighting some of his most popular foes, while using the opportunity to create a new enemy. There will also be encounters with characters from other franchises. My money's on Wolverine and/or The Thunderbolts. I also expect this will launch an Astonishing X-men title around the same time as Amazing Spider-Man gets a new writer.
    11. No comment
    12. Spider-man will fight the Thunderbolts as some point, and Venom/ Norman Osborn will return to the SPider-Man books by the end of the year. The book will be a Top Ten success at first, settling it into the Top 25 post-Civil War.

So- what are your predictions/ hopes/ fears about the Spider-Man franchise for the next year? I'll post mine in a bit.
Number 1- Sometimes I find myself disliking the movies b/c they can differ a lot from the actual comics but I'm still looking forward to this.

Number 2- I like some of JMS' stuff but not all. I'm not really a fan of the whole mystic stuff. I'd like to see how he wraps it all up though.

Number 3- This looks...interesting. I'm hoping it won't end in MJ or May dying or MJ and Pete getting divorced though.

Number 4- I'm looking forward to seeing what some new, fresh blood will do with Spidey.

Number 5- This looks like an amazing story. Can't wait to see if the symbiote is involved or what.

Numbers 6 & 7- I don't read the Ultimate univers so nothing for me here.

Number 8- Cannot wait for this! I only recently got an omnibus and it's huge! A Spidey one is gonna be awesome!

Number 9- Never read anything of Stern's except 2 issues. Maybe I'll pick one up to introduce myself to his work but can't really saying I'm looking forward to it.

Number 10- Once more details come out about it I might be more interested.

Number 11- I love Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man and David's whole take on Spidey. This has been one of the best stories I've read in a while and I can't wait to see how he wraps this up.

Number 12- Don't really read Thunderbolts and the Green Goblin as a hero donesn't really interest me.

You guys can also talk about stuff you'd like to see that hasn't been announced yet (ie- characters/ creators you'd like to see, and where you'd want them.)

I'd love to see the Hobgoblin again in a high-profile storyline (ie- a six issue arc.) I think Peter David could really do the character justice, and now that Norman Osborn is one of the good guys (which will probably last all of ten seconds) it's the perfect time to bring him back.

Jeph Loeb writing Spider-Man. That's what I'm most looking forward to.

And the remaining issues of Spider-Man Reign.

Really only two things. Spider-man just isnt Spider-man anymore I think. Even JMS has disappointed me after a brillant start.

1.) Spidey 3 - Cant WAIT to see Venom.
2.) Black Costume - Id like to see something new in Spidey besides his unmasking. What happened to the JMS jacket costume thought that was interesting too.
3.) I tried to pick up Spider-man Reign - I just couldnt do it. It was like a poor man's DK.

    2. The "Back In Black" event
    3. The "One More Day" crossover
    4. The Jeph Loeb and J. Scott Campbell project
    5. Future "Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man" stories
    6. The eventual return of the original Venom
    7. Who the next writer on "Amazing Spider-Man" will be
    8. Spider-Man 3

I'm looking forward to Spider-Man 3. My only gripe is that they didn't make the black costume more like the comic.

I forgot all about Reign. I'm waiting for the trade with that series, but I have high hopes for it. It may be the best Spider-Man book of the last few years.

That's what I'm looking forward to/hoping for the most, myself. A PAD-penned "Return of the Hobgoblin" extended arc in FNSM would totally make my 2007, all by itself.

Additionally, I'm looking forward to the return of the black suit, the new writer on ASM, more great FNSM issues by Peter David (like the upcoming Sandman arc), Ellis' TBolts w/ Venom and Osborn, the Stern Visionaries TPB, and of course, Spider-Man 3. I'm quite thankful for no more "New Avenger/Iron Spidey," as well.
I'm wary of One More Day after the mess that was The Other, and the Loeb/Campbell team doesn't really interest me, so I'm not looking forward to those two events that much.

The big thing I'm looking forward to: The Spider-man franchise having as good an year as the Batman/ Superman/ X-Men franchises had in 2007.

Spider-Man is the best character in comics. He has the best supporting cast and villains in comics. He attracts the best and brightest creators.

For those reasons, the Spider-Man books should be the best comics being published by any company. The Spider-Man books were good in 2006, but they weren't the best in the industry. I hope that changes in 2007.
