In November, according to the NPD Group, Nintendo sold 476,000 Wiis, and Sony sold 197,000 PS3s. But the interest buoyed all boats: Microsoft's Xbox 360 had its biggest month yet with 511,000 systems; Sony sold 664,000 of its last-generation PS2s. By year's end, McNealy expects sales of Wii and PS3 to hit 1.5 million and 900,000, respectively.

I find it interesting that the analyst thinks the Wii will sell 1.5 million consoles by year end when Nintendo doesn't think they'll be able to ship 1.0 million consoles by year wend.

GBA sales really surprise me, the system is nearly phased out. Also interesting (but not surprising), nearly everyone who bought a Wii bought Zelda as well.

Does it really matter if PS2 is selling lots of units?

Console manufacturers make their money off new (not pre-owned) game sales not hardware sales.

They're not going to be selling PS2 games two years down the line.

PS2 will be this Christmas biggest selling console. Sony's going to make money of it and the games. I think because of the recent price lowering.

I'd wait on that one, everyone i know who works at walmart of best buy is telling me they are getting big Wii shipments the week before christmas.
I might pick up a cheapy ps2 myself....

Frankly, I'm surprised there are this many people who don't have PS2s yet. Between this and FF8 randomly jumping back on the bestseller list a month or two ago, I don't know what people are on.

FF8? As in Final Fantasy Eight? That's just crazy. Hell, that game ruined RPGs for me. I haven't been able to play through one since.

I just got my PS2 in October; I'd had a Gamecube (and the odd go at my brother's Xbox) this past generation. Since I can't afford to go next gen yet, I thought I'd pick up a cheap, "old" console and go nuts on it's back catalogue. I can imagine a lot of people thinking the same way.

And the same can be said about Microsoft and Nintendo, what's the point?

I was just pointing out that Sony's statement, that seemed pretty bold at the time, that the PS2 would be the best selling console world wide this season seems to be turning out to be true.

I find this interesting in the face of all the next gen hype people are buying into. I wish I had made a poll asking people what they thought the best selling console in November before posting this list.
