My husband's 'scumbag' sensor went off way before we even got to Herkimer, regarding Rick. I should have listened, but I felt I had to honor my promise to attend even after Rick started lying about paying on time.

For the record, my husband doesn't need me to defend him. He's a MAN, Rick. You should try being one someday.

You do have to wonder why someone would claim to be a military vet to gain credibility online. What fucked-up mindset is that? I just today saw some of the memorial statues for fallen soldiers around Parliament, and I just can't get my head around someone going "hey, those guys who faced hellish conditions, many who've died or suffered horrific injuries for their country - I'm gonna steal street cred off them!"? What an arsehole.

Bite me, Brit! Your country would fall down around your ears before you'd defend your neighbors or self. I know, I've read your crappola over the last 6 years.

In what isn't even close to one of the biggest ironies in this thread, I am going to contribute in a non-Olney poster's defense the words of...

    Of all people...

    Micah Wright.

From Stormwatch: TA, I believe #2, on the basics of self-defense.

"Go for the joints. Don't stop until they're dead."

I remember this so clearly because I heard a little while after reading it that someone actually GOT this advice in a self-defense class.

Perhaps the instructor, Micah Wright, and the sad, insane Mr. Olney all served together.

So, what, they tried to get a magazine about comics to feature their comic so the fans of comics that read it would hear about it? Basic marketing tactics are a bad thing?

Default This Guy Is Something Else!

I have no stake in this issue, other than a dislike of seeing people getting screwed over, but as an outside observer, my impressions are this:

1---This guy has no money, for a lawyer or to pay the people he owes. I get the idea he's probably typing his crazy posts on a computer set up in his Mom's sewing room.

2---He's scared to death. He makes ridiculous threats because he's gotten himself in an untenable position, knows he's in over his head and is flailing around for a handhold. He's a little boy who's been caught in a lie, and just keeps compounding the problem with more lies.

3---None of you are going to see a dime out of this guy unless he's forced to file bankruptcy and maybe in a few years you'll receive pennies on the dollar of what you're owed. He's obviously out of the business (at least) at this point, so everybody's lost something here. I know he's an infuriating asshole, but stop letting him wind you up. That seems to be the only thing that he has going on right now.

If TLE truly is fraudulent can't someone inform the government about it? Surely they have a branch that deals with that type of stuff.

You're a disgrace to any army you (may) have ever served in. And since you're so happy taking pot-shots at other people's girth: For a marine, you've done a fine job of letting your body (a soldier's best weapon) and your reputation go straight to hell.

You know, since there's a part of the Feds in the US that actually handles that sort of stuff. :)

Sociological viewpoint?! Mr. Carthan get off of it. The internet is the only thing protecting Mr. Olney's person.

However, as someone who's been filing incorporation papers for a friend's company, from a legal viewpoint I find this extremely fascinating. If Mr. Olney has apparently been conducting business all these years, ostensibly collecting money from ticket buyers and sponsors and what not; and he's been contracting individuals and business to do work for him, I have to ask:
    - What is the legal/corporate entity under which he conducts business?

    - When he collects money whose account does it go into?

    - When he "pays" money whose account does it come out of?
If Ms. Bourgeois or Mr. Tobolski and others were hired by him to do work on a regular basis, NYS DoL might be sorely pressed to construe it as an employee employer relationship and not an independent contractor relation (I have much experience with this). In that case Mr. Olney would be found not only in breach of contract but also of tax fraud because when some one works for you you're liable for a portion of their taxes. And remember, Dept of Labour can conclude that an employee-employer relation exists/existed regardess of any contracts signed by the two parties if the terms of hire meet certain specific criteria.

    - Is TLE registered with the NY Dept of State as a business entity? If not, there are a slew of violations right there.

I'd be very curious to find out.

    -Das
