    Default Friday the 13th

Wildstorm has launched their Friday the 13th series today, appropriately on December 13th! So what did you think of Jason's first outing by Wildstorm?

I think writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti did a good job with this 1st issue. It almost plays like one of the movies. I really liked how they gave mention to Crystal Lake and it's sordid past. They played with the mythology of Camp Crystal Lake a bit.

However, there was little of Jason in this debut issue. But I'm curious enough to see where this might lead. Did anyone else give this a try?

I enjoyed it as well for the reasons you listed.

I really enjoyed that spread with all those drowned children pulling the girl under the lake.

I didnt mind not seeing Jason much this issue, in the first four films you never saw Jason til the end anyway.

One issue in and it's already better than the entire avatar run, AND nobody exploded when they got stabbed either!

Yeah, I'm a big Jason fan and I like how this series going so far. I like the further exploration of the whole Jason mythology around Crystal Lake. It actually feels like they're telling a story instead of a splatter fest.

But will there be gratuitous sex?! It's not really a Ft13th series without hapless teenage couples getting brutally murdered after engaging in naughtiness! ;) :p

I didn’t hate this book. Which is saying something for me. It is well written and so far is the closest to the avatar books that were scraped.

#2 is out. Sean Walsh should be happy. This issue had gratuitous sex, followed by acts of vicious violence.

The sequence with the children in the lake was actually pretty suspenseful. I like how they stop the dialogue during certain moments, it does ranch up the thriller feel.

What is up with that hippy red-head guy? Is he a freak too? My only real complain is still: there should be more Jason.

I've been really enjoying this series so far.The shot of the one character seeing the children standing in the lake was pretty cool.I'm really looking forward to seeing where they take this in upcoming issues.

At this time we’re only doing the six issues and the focus is on a new owner looking to open the camp and marketing it as a theme park.
So who is taken over afterwards? Man, I'd kill for that gig.

Damn, that is disappointing. Gray and Palmiotti are only staying for six issues. I think it's their writing that has made this title so surprisingly good.

I'm actually still on the fence about the actual story. I don't think it's bad and it's a big step up from the Avatar stuff. But as a (rabid) fan, I start to get a little nervous anytime someone starts to deal in the back story. Plus they misspelled "Voorhees" in the first issue.

But I know I have problems. I'm into Friday the 13th the way most people are into Star Wars. I have this huge, personal, vision of the whole mythology in my head. Almost nothing can live up to it. Like I said, I know my level of enthusiasm verges on the nutty. I don't want to sound like I'm bad mouthing the series. It's entertaining and well worth a read.

Though I have to say out of the three "monster" titles Wildstorm is putting out...I'm enjoying the Texas Chainsaw one the most. Which is weird, because it's based on the remake. And I did NOT like that film. At all.

(The prequel was kinda fun though.)
