    Default Scalped

Anyone else going to get this? I really REALLY like the sound of this book. To be honest I've not heard of the writer or the artist before, but I do know of Jock, however, the idea and premise of the book is strong enough and intriguing enough for me to pick up at the very minimum, the first issue.

Yes. A modern tale on the Lakota and orgenized crime following big money gambling sounds interesting.

The writer Jason Aaron is also writting the Vertigo mini-series The Other Side. The artist R.M. Guera is a Europian artist who has appeared in Heavy Metal magazine and seems to be a really good genre artist. Genre as in detective, horror and historical recreation.

I'll probably pick up the first issue, and if it's decent I'll get the trade. That's how I've been doing it with all of the new titles, and it's been working out well for me so far, as I liked American Virgin, Exterminators, and avoided Testament. Missed the first issue of DMZ, but I've been hearing good things, so I'll grab it as well.

I'm not entirely sold on the concept, but The Other Side has been an incredible debut from Aaron, so I'm definitely giving it a shot.

Glad to hear it, I think it's going to be another very interesting series you wouldn't find anywhere else but Vertigo. So congrats again to Vertigo and Karen Berger for helping to bring such a unique book to the market.

I appreciate all the interest in SCALPED. I'm anxious for everybody to see it.

Over at Millarworld, someone asked me: Is SCALPED going to be like other ongoing Vertigo series in terms of length (about 50-75 issues long)?

My answer: I sure hope so. As of right now, I have the series mapped out to around issue #30, when the shit really hits the fan. In those first thirty issues, we'll meet tribal cops, meth addicts, greedy officials from the BIA, practitioners of Jeet Kune Do, the Dawg Soldierz, the Burn Victims, an FBI agent named after Warren Oates' father, a two time Soldier of Fortune Combat Knife Champion, a brutal Hmong street gang, a Heyoka who talks to his horse and the sheriff who presides over the largest drunk tank in the United States.

    Thumbs up

Hey Jason, your description really fleshed out the plot of the series. I'll definately be picking up this series when it hits the stands. This reminds me that what Vertigo does best are really good character dramas.

I sent the eight-page preview to my old anthropology professor (who is also Native American). Here's what she had to say:

OMG, it is so awful. Bad, bad, bad!

Just read the isssue a few moments ago and it was an interesting take on the modern life of Native americans. They have poverty problems along with drugs, prostitution, and all others. I can see from Jason Aaron saying there will be practitioners of Jeet kune do. Does bad horse just happens to know this style? He did fight alot of people in the beginning of the book with nunchuks and the rough necks did mention he was fast and deadly so I'll presume he knows this style.

Hope to see more cool stuff for this series in the future and it's a nice change from the usual super hero comics. I'll be looking foward to the next issue.

I've been waiting 2 months for this to come out. Now I have to wait longer..stupid car. I have to wait until the end of the month to get everything now. But Scalped looks really good to bad in only runs for 3 issues.
