what did you think?? i enjoyed it, i'm interested in the characters already. some funny stuff too. the villain emoticon is pretty cool.
Mr. Backlund continued wrestling under the new gimmick of an out of touch, yet highly dangerous, maniac out to teach the new generation a lesson.[3] He often appeared in business suits, had a hyperactive personality, and used (or, often, misused) large words to sound important. He also demanded that he be addressed as "Mr. Backlund". He would only sign autographs for wrestling fans if they could recite the names of all of the US Presidents in chronological order

not quite as happy with it as you are.

the art is good. the dialogue is good. but the direction this is taking doesn't seem as interesting as I would have wanted. maybe it will suprise me--this is one of those 'first issues' that make it hard to see where the series is going. will this be a 'detective' style series (i.e. which bad guy or good guy is the killer?) or a revenge series? or a return-to-glory series? hard to say.

btw--this series' subject is oddly similar to 'living in infamy' --a recent series that I can't find the last 2-3 issues of.

I enjoyed it. If I was a hollywood producer I'd pitch it as Eureka! meets Top Ten. I don't think I've ever seen Neil Googe's art before, but I like it...although I think his noses need work. I'll be checking out the next issue.

I really respected this issue. The art was really bold and imaginative -- the whole thing oozed Pottery Barn and set an amazing tone. Similarly, I give Simone tremendous credit for the concept behind this -- the elderly must be the single most underrepresented population in the comic book industry, almost entirely unexplored. Yet this is how old the first Superheroes would be if they were still alive today.

However, I felt nothing for these characters. None of them interested me in any way. Gail usually writes really strong characters that feel amazingly real. I didn't get any of that in this issue. And the plot doesn't look too interesting either.

So I'm out. This isn't for me. I really respect it, but I didn't enjoy it.

I thought it was a great first issue.

And emoticon is my favorite new villain of the year
Church: So it is a sword, It just happens to function like a key in very specific situations.
Caboose: Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it in people, it unlocks their death.

I liked it. Not sure how long I'll keep getting it, but it was good enough for me to buy #2. Emot guy was great.
