    Default Mysterious Traveler questions

If someone gave me a wad of money, and a great vault of comics to tease away that wad, I think it would be not too far into the heavenly fantasy that I would have succeeded in gathering up for keeps a tidy pile of the complete run of Charlton's short lived, but much esteemed Mysterious Traveler series. The reason for the lust that surrounds this particular four colour treasure can more or less be summed up with... all Ditko all the time. Cei-U initiated his salivating thread about the hypothetical gathering up up Charltons action heroes, but I am wondering about the particular strictures and circumstance that might be at work in any potential reprint collection of the original Mysterious Traveler run. Just who owns his rights now anyway? I Know DC took ownership of many of the Charlton superhero characters, (Blue Beetle et.al.) who might make up Cei-U's Charlton Action hero collection. Did DC snap up the Mysterious Traveler rights as well? What is the best extant reprint collection of these vital Ditko tales? I know certain individual stories have received reprint glory in some of Charlton's 70's horror titles. There was some sort of, now impossible for me to find, B&W Eclipse reprint in the 90's. What about a full colour complete Tales of the Mysterious Traveler trade paperback or hardcover? I guess the odds of this happening aren't great, but I think it would be lovely.

Does Roger Broughton of Montreal own the Mysterious Traveler republication rights, through his 1986 purchase of Charlton/ACG ? If so I guess it is to him we must petition any reprint of the horror and suspense Charlton material. But then what about Eclipse Comics 1990 reprint issue of some of this material?

Moonstone is currently publishing new Mysterious Traveler stuff, so perhaps they'll do something in the way of reprints one day:

I think Robin Snyder may own Charlton's Mysterious Traveler material.

I have a few of the Mysterious Traveller comics from the 50s and two from Charlton last ditch mid-80s relaunched. It is excellent stuff, especially the Ditko issues.

There was a Mysterious Traveler radio program, so I don't know if Charlton initially used the title under a license (I doubt it).

I agree that a reprint would certainly be lovely.

Who published the Ditko Space War book (it's at home, I am not)? That was quite recent. Perhaps that's who would put together a package of Ditko MT material. Although, that book was a bit pricey for a black and white, IIRC.

It seems it was also a magazine LR... nice Norman Saunders old school pulp art.

PS... I envy you your 50's originals of MT!

They are pretty tough to track down at a good price - but I lucked out on a few. These are the one's I've got - although one is a "This Magazine is Haunted" with Ditko art - I think his name is 'Dr. Haunt' or something, but with Ditko on pencils, he's essentially the Mysterious Traveller. The #1 doesn't have any Ditko art - so it's not as pricey.

The two 1985 issues are tough to find, but a much cheaper alternative to the originals. They contain stories from the 50s series as well as stories from This Magazine is Haunted (hence my inspiration to lump them all together). I think there's at least one new story, but I can't say for sure.

Another good option is Haunted #49, as it which contains 50s reprints.

Many thanks for the excellent suggestions LR... I think that Haunted 49, will be a good place for me to start . I was also thinking of Ghost Manor #9.
