    Angry New JSA book

Ok... I've never been a monthly DC reader. Those of you who know me may know that about me already. But I promised a friend that I'd TRY out the new Justice Society of America book.

I thought, what the hell? The 1st issue is like $.75 from DCBS and those Alex Ross covers are always awesome. I'll read the first arc. It's supposed to be the "ideal jumping on point for new readers" and you aren't going to need any prior knowledge, so that's good. But I've been trying to do my homework and read the interviews and features that I see on CBR and Newsarama.

    And there I found this:

NRAMA: And then, after the initial arc?

GJ: With #5 and #6, we cross over with Justice League of America, so we'll roll right into that.

What?!?!?! I don't read that book and don't want to. Now I'm pissed and I haven't even read the 1st issue yet. PLUS - I'd have to pre-order JLA 5 & 6 based on the strength of just 1 issue. But wait, there's more. I'd have to order #6 out of this month's catalog and already backorder #5 because I didn't know about this until now!

Did you guys know this? Are any of you planning on trying this one out, or were you planning on getting it already?

If I were you I'd wait and see what happened. Meltzer had his twelve issues of JLA written long ago, possibly before Johns had JSA ready to go. So this crossover may--and this is just my speculation, you should check it out for yourself--exist only within the JSA title.

Ugh, don't bother pre-ordering the JLA stuff. Just get the first JSA arc, and if you like it, continue with it.

I've read plenty of "crossovers" without having to buy the other book. They read just fine, and you can check threads here on CBR to find out what happened in the JLA issues. But don't waste your money on a book you don't want.

Thanks guys. I'm seriously listening here! :)

    Here's DC's solicit for JLA #5 & 6:

#5 (On Sale December 27, 2006): One of the hottest teams in comics — Brad Meltzer, Ed Benes and Sandra Hope — continues to heat things up in Part 5 of "The Tornado's Path." Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman join Green Lantern, Black Canary and Arsenal against the unstoppable force of a villain reborn.

#6 (On Sale February 21, 2007): DC's super-hit cuts loose as best-selling author Brad Meltzer and artist Ed Benes unleash an unstoppable foe on the team that will become the Justice League!

I can't really see how they'd x-over, at least not in a major way. Maybe they just "feed" off of each other. Ok.. I may be able to just skip the JLA issues and make it ok.

Remember, though: JLA numbering is ahead of JSA numbering. So the issues of JLA contemporary with JSA 5 and 6 would be, what... 8 and 9? 9 and 10? Something like that.

Buy the first four issues of JSA in singles, and then wait for the trade of the JLA/JSA crossover. Unless you're already picking up JLA, then you should be fine either way. Or you could be like me and only buy JSA in trades. It's a good series, and now I can't wait for this new series to get into trades.

There are no solicits that far in advance for the supposed x-over. I'll post the details here after I see them.

But I really don't have any interest in the JLA. If that x-over is necessary reading then I'm gonna have to REALLY like this book to order the other books or a tpb.

    Thanks all!

On the plus side, if it's only a four issue crossover, the trade will probably be pretty cheap, $10-12 range.
