Default Beyond: Hank Pym and Firebird *Spoilers*

So, this is a few months old now so not really a spoiler per se, but if you haven't been keeping up with Beyond then you've missed some developments.

What does everyone think of what is seemingly the real end of the Hank and Jan era? Sure, Beyond didn't really cement anything, and things change, but I for one am pretty happy with the idea of Hank and Bonita as a couple. I think they could have a much healthier relationship than Hank and Jan have of late.

Time to let Jan to build a relationshiop as an adult woman, rather than clinging to her girlhood ideal.

I didn't read Beyond, maybe when it comes out in trade, but this sounds like, in the long run, good news. It is a good logical way to explain why Wasp will be on Mighty Avengers, but Hank won't. Firebird actually gets a bit more exposure indirectly and while it seems like Hank is getting retired, at least it is better than killing the poor slob off. It might even let Hank build a new life where he won't be constantly judged for the actions during one day of insanity.

I actually really liked this. The writer (who's name I can't spell and would rather no mangle at this late hour) did a pretty good job setting up why Jan and Hank just won't work. I like that she understands that the slap wan't Hank's fault but just can't get over it. It's understandable and to tell the truth, Jan and Hank moving on opens up some nice little stories and get her out of his shadow.

As for pairing Hank up with Firebird: It seems a little too fast (especially seeing as how religious she is) but whatever. I'm kind of glad if Hank moves on (at least we don't get anymore wife beating comments). As for Bonita, I liked her when she appeared in Avengers talking to Thor about immortality and more exposure would be fun.

I have no strong feelings over the Hank/Bonita thing one way or the other. But truthfully I wonder if the whole thing won't basically be ignored.

Well, the two do have a bit of history, going back to West Coast Avengers circa 1987.

Actually, if 'Beyond!' takes place *before* Civil War (as I'm suspecting), then Hank and Bonita have more than likely split up. (Hank is pro-reg and Firebird joined Cap's group, I think)

I for one HATE the idea of Hank/Firebird. One because I dislike Hank in general and two, how long will it be before some writer comes along and has him hit her in some 'relapse' again or destroys her character (which is the sole reason why I like her)?

Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I see no good coming of this in the long run.

Intruging- but aren't they on opposing sides in Civil War? otherwise, let's see 'em in one of the Avengers titles.

Actually, I remember during Hank's 'Dr Pym' phase, there was a possibility of him and Firebird.

i think it's a better romantic pairing than Hank and Jan. not sure how they are going to get around the registration act though. Hank would have to visit Firebird in prison.

more like she was there for him after he tried to blow his own brains out. that's a bad way to start a relationship. how could he ever be sure that she wasn't dating him out of pity?

I just like that he was back wearing a modification of his shrinking other stuff duds. I have no idea why they tried to turn him back into a standard superhero again, he's so much more interesting without a mask.

Well, maybe they just think if Hank is going to end up doing things in Civil War that will make him feel horribly guilty, he might as well be in the Yellow Jacket costume. That outfit already has a guilt stigma attatched to it... no sense in contaminating the rest of his outfits.

I tend to remember it this way also.... but, if you want to read between the lines, her love for her fellow man could have lead to some sort of romantic development. I'd be willing to see where it might lead... (Please, Marvel, NO LOVE TRIANGLES WITH JAN, HANK AND BONNITA!:evilangry )

Well, Bonita is a generally kind person, so maybe she did intend to help him in a sincere way and well, they just kinda grew close.

    One thing that bothers me is that she is also a devout Catholic and I dunno what Hank's religion is (if he has any at all). I know Bonita isn't rabid Orthodox, but if it is a huge part of her life (as it should be IMO), I can see where it may cause problems. Though who knows? I have a friend who's non-religious but we get along just fine... so long as neither one of us brings up religion, anyways. =];;;

I just hope that IF Hank/Bonita happens, some writer doesn't make her give up her religion just so she can make Hank happy. I've finally found a super hero that shares my values... don't take her away so soon! D=

I'm hoping they do something with Firebird. I think the biggest problem her character had was that her powers gave her the appearance of the Phoenix. I'm hoping Marvel plays down that aspect and deals with her possible immortality and her ability to sense the presence of evil. I know this isnt the thread for it, but I would love to see her with Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, and Doc Strange in a new version of Midnight Sons. Futhermore, It would be great to see a storyline with the Vatican sending her on special missions against the occult.
