Default War of the worlds comics

    Hi,

I have a bit of a passion for all things War Of The Worlds and recently relaunched my site to include as many War Of The Worlds comics as I could possibly find.
I'd be delighted if any members could have a look and see if I am missing any. I'm sure there must be more - even references in non-wotw comics would be interesting.
Find my list of War Of The Worlds comics at:

    Cheers
    John

It's a slim reference, but in CREEPY #87, Berni Wrightson illustrates a one-page on fictional martians. His take on Wells' mmertians an be seen on the far right of the cover:

Wow, great job! Your site looks very thorough. I can’t add anything other than if you expand your site to include other works influenced by War of the Worlds, like The Tripods by Samuel Youd, as it had a comic adaptation in the American scouting magazine Boys Life.

How about Superman: War of the Worlds from 1998?

I didn't see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen volume 2, which is all about the original Wellsian invasion.

Well it's really tenuous but I remember the Joker's declaration that he intended to steal the Claridge diamond over the radio was dismissed as a hoax like that one by that martian chap by one couple. Like I said, not really an amazing find, but since it's from Batman 1 (1940) it may be the first reference of any kind in a comic book.

    I'm not so internet-savvy, I guess.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the interesting responses. I have that issue of Creepy magazine on the way to me.
Fasinated by the potential Batman reference, though I stopped by my friendly neighbourhood comic store this lunch time and took a look at a reprint of Batman 1. Unless I missed it (and I was in a hurry) I just don't see it, though certainly the story is heavily reliant on radio as part of the plot.
Perhaps it was another issue of Batman?? Can someone confirm this?

Part of the plot focuses on a copy of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS novel, an Orson Welles look-alike, and real Martians in England.

SECRET ORIGINS (1986 series) No. 5 connected The Crimson Avenger's origin with Orson Welles's 1938 radio broadcast of WAR OF THE WORLDS, and crooks dressing up as Martians to take advantage of the panic.

According to the Grand Comics Database, UFO FLYING SAUCERS No. 5 has a four-page comic-book story on the Orson Welles broadcast of WAR OF THE WORLDS.

Not a complete adaptation but a one-page b/w strip bio of Orson Welles in an 1963 issue of the UK comic Boys World features a frame covering his radio version.

I have a photocopy of the whole page somewhere - I'll see if I can find it...

Also reminded me that the last instalment of the guide to Gerry Anderson's Starcruiser depicts the Martians from War of the Worlds. Might have this instalment somewhere... drop me a line and I'll have a hunt round.

    :)
