Default What are your Theories about Clone Saga?

Man, i hate this clone saga! There are so many characters and plot twists inside it, it's been driving me nuts. I am optimistic that it will all be explained and justified before the end. For those interested in posting their theories about who clone saga's mastermind is, placing bets on which characters will survive and/or become regular members of the continuity, or complaining loudly (with good reasoning skills) about the state of Ultimate Spider-Man, you've come to the right place.

Several threads that already discuss this.

General opinions seem to say that overall the Clone Saga is the best USM has been for sometime. The names that seem to get dropped the most for a potential mastermind are Fury, Doctor Octavious, Green Goblin, and Richard Parker.

Definitely leaning more towards Ult Doc Ock at this point imo. Especially after seeing him at the end of #102, and on the cover for #104.

    Agreed.

Personally, I'm loving Ultimate Clone saga. I think Bendis is doing a fantastic job with it. I haven't enjoyed a USM arc this much since the Hollywood one.

This is really Bendis getting back on the stick with this book. It sort of meandered for awhile since the Hobgoblin arc. But this arc just brings everything except the organized crime angle together. It solidifies the series as one long story and not just a string of arcs. The revelation of Peter's dad is the first real break with continuity (revealing his ID to MJ doesn't count as she new right from the start in 616,too.) Really, if you've been reading the book, I don't understand the confusion. Fury, the FF, Ben Reilly- their appearances have all been self-explanatory. Pete's Dad and Gwen got a whole issue to explain what they were doing there. And everyone else is a Spider-clone of varying degrees of success. And MJ is big and hairy and Aunt May had a heart attack.

Tangentially, I thought May had been recast as much younger so the heart attack seemed like a bit of a reach, but she's probably a clone anyway, so...

And I don't think there's a mastermind per se. Its the remnants of Trask industries working with the remnants of Oscorp under the auspices of SHIELD. So if you need a villian, Fury is standing right there.

SATAN SAYS: C'mon, Bendis, give the ladies a break.

Im not liking it so as much as everyone else. I can't believe that all these things would happen like this.

1.) Nick Fury was supposed to be keeping Doc Ock in custody. If someone came to take him out to 'make clones', shouldn't that tip Nick Fury off as to something being wrong?

2.) Doc Ock can makes clones? So he can do everything,...work on Oz, work on technology, work on cybernetic implants.

3.) Oh wait,...he "never" did cybernetic implants,..of course not,...cuz hes really magneto's twin brother.

4.) Why clone Peter Parker? Because his genetics are of a perfect human and so more preferable? Oh, why didn't they clone some mutant instead, or captain america? or one of the countless other superhumans out there?
its just a stupid excuse to introduce a stupid clone saga story.

5.) why would Doc Ock clone Peter Parker. He hates him. Why would he want to make MORE of him?!! It can't be just to annoy PP seeing as the whole thing was kept secret from him!

6.) why would you clone gwen stacy?
why does gwen stacy's clone have carnage properties?

7.) why does Clone Saga have to happen at all? In ANY continuity?!!
    arghhhhh!!!! <head explode>

Its ridiculous. In creating the ultimate universe, they've managed to update every aspect of so many characters lives and avoid some shabby tales and poor continuity from 616. Clone Saga is taking things back to how 616 is.

    Since when??

Ock was in Rykers last time we saw him escape. And since Fury destroyed his tentacles at the end of the Hollywood arc, then it's safe to assume that's where he was sent back to.

2.) Doc Ock can makes clones? So he can do everything,...work on Oz, work on technology, work on cybernetic implants.
In case you didn't know, OZ is all about genetics. Which means you have to specialize in DNA study.

3.) Oh wait,...he "never" did cybernetic implants,..of course not,...cuz hes really magneto's twin brother.

How about you wait until issue #104 to see the full extent of his powers, before dubbing him Magneto's brother.

4.) Why clone Peter Parker? Because his genetics are of a perfect human and so more preferable? Oh, why didn't they clone some mutant instead, or captain america? or one of the countless other superhumans out there?

    Why clone Peter Parker??

Why NOT clone Peter Parker is the real question. Peter is the perfect speciman of super human agility and strength. Not to mention, Ock has an intimate knowledge of Peter's genetics.

5.) why would Doc Ock clone Peter Parker. He hates him. Why would he want to make MORE of him?!! It can't be just to annoy PP seeing as the whole thing was kept secret from him!
Have you not been reading the story??

Ock cloned Peter because he wants recognition for his work, and as an added bonus it perverts every part of Peter's life.

Fame, glory, and a dash of revenge.

6.) why would you clone gwen stacy?
why does gwen stacy's clone have carnage properties?
Since the arc is not over, wait and see for the answer to that.

As the above poster has said, Peter has a great amount of agility. Think about it, with powers of super strength and agility, combine it with martial arts training, not to mention sticking to walls to avoid enemies while infilterating facilities and such and to boot, you have spidey sense to warn you of incoming enemies, help dodge bullets or just plain warn you of traps.

These qualities if you think about it, can make a perfect super soldier that can take on most foes in the world. Hell a clone specialize in training can even take on captain america if he/she is prepared along with those powers to dodge his punches. Moving from building to building with speed/agility to escape enemies, that would be dream qualites for an assasin/or spy.

I've only read one issue of it, but as much as I can deduce is that the whole thing is a conspiracy to sell more issues.

    Keep that under your hat.

    That's right. It's not.

That's 616, not Ultimate. And second, his death in that was retconned in less than 2 years. Shortest death ever :)

What facts?? Bendis LOVES Doc Ock. He'll kill off MJ before he kills Ock.

There is a death of a Goblin arc coming up. I hope it's Norman that bites the dust. Not a fan of the Hulk like Goblin look at all.
