Default So what is your opinion on The Batman?

Obviously this show was fighting an uphill battle from the very beginning with being compared to Batman: The Animated Series, but I've heard if you look at it in a different way it's pretty good like the Ultimate Marvel Universe. So what's the opinion on The Batman show here, because I'm seriosuly thinking about checking it out.

I was ready to damn it out of hand but then I watched Batman vs Dracula.

It's not a patch on the Animated Series and the Joker looks like a Rastafarian who's had a fright but it's not as bad as that Teen Titans Go dreck.

i hate the new looks on the villians. they look so stupid now. The Riddler looks emo, The Joker looks like he has mutated and Mr. Freeze just look stupid. its an aweful show.

I've only watched a few episodes of this season and I like the art direction overall.

It seems, to me, to try to combine the old sixties show and the 90's animated series...and it works on some levels.

I saw the first season and liked it on its own. Its more kid oriented but was cool enough with a theme done by U2's guitarist "Edge". But then they swithced to this cheesy action theme that sounds like Hawaii Five-Oh. It just kid of takes you out of it, haven't watched it since.

I did like it better than Teen Titans which I just couldn't sit thru more than once.

I love it... No, seriously. I do. Don't look at it as Batman in his continuity. That's the problem everyone has with it. It's a great show IF you actually look at it as if you have never heard of Batman. It's a new take on old characters. And hey, it got my 11 year old nephew asking about comics instead of just watching a video over and over. And corrupting the young is a good thing. On another note, TAS rocked. Personally I don't think it can get better than that. You can't fairly compare the two. But I put The Batman in it's own class and enjoy.

I love TAS, but The Batman won me over too. Its a total guilty pleasure. I picked the first season up cheap and really was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Its fun, and the new designs are just designs, they don't insult my years of Batman enjoyment or anything.

    Yeah, I like The Batman.

It's overall mostly bad, but some episodes are good, although still not anywhere B:TAS quality. And yeah, I think it *is* fair to compare them. If they didn't want us to compare TB to B:TAS, then they just shouldn't have made it a series about Batman, period.

For the most part, however, the series is mostly a bunch of good basical ideas wasted by awful execution.

I actually can't watch this show. I can't stand the art, the voices, or the characters. There's nothing appealing to me. The funny thing is that those making the show know people are struggling to watch it and have resorted to a crossover (vs. Dracula) and the introduction of Robin so soon.

Geez, what's with all the Teen Titans hate? I thought it was a fun show.

The first couple seasons of The Batman sucked, but it got better. They got rid of Rojas, brought Gordon in, the plots and dialog improved, etc. This season's been pretty strong, actually. Bruce's face has been re-designed, and I like what they're doing with Robin.

Still, it's not BTAS, and I have no desire to own the DVDs (although if I find The Batman vs. Dracula cheap, I might get that, it was pretty good).

Batman's still one of the most marketable heroes DC has, it's why they continue to make cartoons about Batman and Superman while many others in their stable are neglected. Comparisons don't matter much to them as long as they're selling toys.

The reason why I don't like it is the interpretation of the villains. They are poorly characterized. Joker is a martial arts expert and so is Penguin. Don't get that. I don't like some of the designs. Joker and Riddler are just ugly to me but in a bad way. I like the way Batman looks and that's about it. The one with bane in was solid. But that's it, the rest turned me cold. It is aimed at a younger audiance than the beautiful BTAS. But even so...

Oh, I don't mind so much how the characters look (although, darn, that Joker and that Ivy are awful to watch at), but how personality-flat they are. Even Clayface/Bennet feels more forced than sympathetic.

However, I'll make an exception for 'The Laughing Bat' and 'Dangerous Minds', which give a better sense of real madness (but, alas, not of real threat) to Joker than TAS ever did. Even so, every other TB Joker episode is nauseating to watch, and this is coming from a major Joker fan.

Eh, it's just a show for kids of today. It's nowhere near as good as BTAS, but it works well enough for what it is.
