Talk about a risky proposition: Nate Neal’s “The Sanctuary” is dialogued entirely in (pseudo-) prehistoric language; the characters live in caves, so much of the art is very dark in a starkly black and white comic book. One of the characters is a painter, paints images of what happens in his group; skinny guy, especially compared to the big hunter. It’s an interesting depiction of what cave-life might’ve been, day-to-day, chronicling at this time the exile of the artist and destruction of his art by the big guy, alpha male. Not an easy comic to follow, Sanctuary’s a very interesting experiment in an area (prehistoric humans) I happen to be interested in; and if you’re interested in ancient HS, or interesting comic books, I recommend this’n. Let me know if you try it, and what you find!
