If Mary Jane had died, she would most likely be a secondary character in Spidey's history, not remembered that much. And Peter would have gotten married sooner.

That's right! Al Gore invented the internet, let's all go kick his ass!
I got your inconvenient truth right here, motherf*&¨%!
Donald M.
Peter would have mourned, but not as deeply as he did for Gwen.
It wasn't until after Gwen's death that his relationship with MJ became serious. spoilers:end of spoilers
In the most recent SSM, MJ reflected that it was when she first consoled Peter over Gwen's death, that she started to realize that Pete was The One for her.
While he would be furious with Osborn for killing MJ, given the status of their relationship at that time, I don't see him vowing to kill Goblin. He might vow that Osborn will never see the outside of a jail, but that's about it.
The other issue would be how Gwen would take Peter being Spider-Man. MJ knew all along(according to the retcon) but Gwen wasn't aware. She still blamed Spider-Man for her father's death(although some dialogue from Marvels #4 indicated that she was no longer certain prior to that fateful bridge incident). If Peter were to unmask in front of Gwen, she might not take it well.
Intellect and Romance over Brute Force and Cynicism!
Harry Osborn would not become Green Goblin JR until one day after a lot of years he learns that his long dead father killed her because MJ and Norman were a couple and made twins who MJ didnt want Norman to see...
haha I doubt Norman'd be able to get any from MJ.
"No law against running around in colorful long johns is there? I mean if there was, they'd have thrown you in jail years ago! See you around, Petey-o!" - Harry Osborn
Truth is that the Spidey marriage hasn't been very interesting. It has the potential to be, but the lack of creativity on the writer's part makes it rather dull.
So, whether Gwen or MJ marry Peter, I don't think there would be much that was dramatically different. Though, it would have been great to see Gwen's reaction to Peter being Spider-Man, considering she blamed him for her father's death.
Gwen and MJ were equally hot. Gwen was smart and sexy. MJ was just sexy. To be frank, MJ went through a lot of character evolution so its not REALLY fair to compare them too much because of how much she has changed.
Ultimate Gwen was a Gothic-esque hot girl with divorced parents. 616 Gwen was a smart, goody-goody, amazingly hot science student raised by her retired father. They are VERY different.
Because we all seen the complaints of the current Spider marriage and since we all seen in HOM the alternate version of Peter's marriage only it to Gwen Stacy, and in one the old What if we saw what happen if Spidey saved Gwen during that infamous storyline.
I also seen that both in the movies, the first MK Spidey storyline and in the Ultimate Version, Mary Jane was toss from a brige and Spidey saved her.
While the MK story was in the current 616 universe I was wondering what the worst that could happen if MJ had died during that infamous two-parter in the past, instead of Gwen Stacy ?
If Green Goblin killed MJ instead of Gwen the story would not be as memorable because she wasn't Peter's girlfriend at the time. Also Spider-man would not be married today. Gwen would have eventually faded into the background with the rest of his ex-girlfriends and made recurring appearances from time to time. Bottom line is that Gwen wasn't interesting enough as a character to be a permanent girlfriend.
aunt may, mj and norman should die and uncle ben, gwen and harry should come back, that would mix some things up.
Gwen would have died a bit later...her character was destined to die...
I believe there would be something between Peter and Liz somehow
I sort of agree with this. Since MJ's depth hadn't been fully explored at that point, she might have been regarded as a mere relic of her era.
And since Peter and Gwen were exclusive, I think there's a good chance he would have married her, rather than drawing out their dating relationship for so long or switching girlfriends. Looking into my crystal ball, I'll say they would've gotten married in 1978. Even though Gwen did the damsel in distress thing a lot, in some ways she's more like Peter than MJ is. Her dad was a cop, and she was a big smartie, too. So I think she might have taken an interest in helping him with his Spider-Man career somehow - investigating or something.
"I don't care if they have definite connections to the boy scouts. They have Weapon X - I want him back. We spent a lot of money and resources developing and training him - not to mention your group as well - I won't see it thrown away."
- Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, April 1979
Unfortunately, Wolverine escaped to the U.S. with the X-Men. Soon after this stunning debacle, Trudeau's Liberal Party would go down to defeat in the May 1979 election.
