Default A stupid question from a BA student...

Ok, Let's just say I'm working on a comic project involving Werewolves using Slavic myth as an enthic backdrop and I need to write a research paper about it.

I proposed that I do a case study of Indie Comic companies who are doing similar projects involving myths like say :- Virgin Comics, Moonstone, Archaia Studios Press, etc.

I also Thought I could host a ten page preview and gather data and feedback from questionairs and surveys. Which brings me to ask two questions :

Which Independents do you think I should do my case study on and why?

and How else do you think I can test out my comic using my ten page preview?

I hope It's ok to post this, I already feel pathetic by asking this stuff :o

Hammer of The Gods by Michael Avon Oeming and Mark Wheatley is a good place to start exploring Norse mythology and culture. It fits the mold of the heroes journey and explores mythological prohibitions on the protagoniost. It's published by image comics and available as a single trade paperback.

White wolf games published an rpg about 8 years ago called Werewolf the apocalypse. Each group of werewolves descended from differant ethnic backgrounds. I'd recomend the book called Tribebook: Shadow Lords 2nd edition for a wealth of information about about a group of werewolves descended from the Slavic peoples and intrenched in thier mythology.

You can print out your ten page preveiw as a mini comic with any remaining pages used for text explaining the plot of the rest of the comic story.

I've heard about the Werewolf : The Apocalypse rpgs.

Since they're not exactly a comic, I'm not sure wether I can find a copy in my local comic/Book stores but I'll check it out anyway.

Moonstone published a few comics based off of that game.

Drat! I can't find Hammer of the Gods in my local stores, I guess I'll have to order it online. Too bad cuz I really like Oeming's art.

My lecturer suggests that I take a sort of 'Samurai Jack-ish' kind of approach to my story (ie:- A character from one ethic background traveling to different backdrops)

Any comics out there with similar concept?

    Not necessarily Werewolf but…
I would highly suggest Neil Gaiman’s Sandman and Lucifer two vertigo titles that have quite a bit of mythology in them much of it is Jewish/Christian but many other myths are explored and intermingle together. There are many spin-off miniseries as well.

Also, Books of Magic and Books of Fairy as well.

Usagi Yojimibo has quite a lot of Japanese myths (don’t know if that helps).

Promethia has tons of mythological elements as well as magical arcanna.
