Default ASM 536: Discussion, Reviews, SPOILERS

(Spoiler, Obviously) So good issue/ bad issue. I have really been enjoying ASM again, and this issue continued that feeling. However, I was a little disappointed in the whole thing between Tony and Peter. It was pretty weak. I was glad to see that Peter had messed with the suit before taking him on, but he ran....

I liked the stuff between MJ and Peter. Having said that, Aunt May really needs to die before Civil War ends. Her character just seems to perfect for me, her guidance is to in your face or something. I don't know if they could fix this, just get rid of her.

Garney's art is outstanding. I really enjoy the way he draws Peter and MJ. His faces at moments need work, but overall he is outstanding. It was great flipping that page and finally seeing Peter back in Red and Blue. I missed it.

I think I'd give it a 7 out of 10, only because of the Aunt May stuff.....

This is nice, but it throws what we all read in Civil War #5 out the window. Where is the continuity?

    Default Summary?

    Any chance of a summary?

Not really cause it says it takes place after events occuring in CW 5 and 6. I didn't really like that they did it after 5 and 6, but at the conclusion of 5 you could see why.

Oh yea and here's your summary: Go buy the comic

how? after getting shot at by the sheild agents peter falls to the street and has his little iron man fight and runs away to later be ambushed by jester and jack o lantern. there is a note saying that the second half of the book takes place after civil war #5 and 6.

More like the second two thirds, really.

Me, I liked it. JMS has Peter's character down pat. I can't wait for the finale.

I got this issue clear back on Monday. I liked this issue. Peter pretty much smacked Tony in the face and told him to go die. He dawns the classic red 'n' blue. The Aunt May stuff was very good, and the talk with Peter's younger self was nice. Spider-man is for sure the character to read about during Civil War. Also great cover for this issue.

Though I'm disappointed Spidey's switching from the right side to the wrong side, the issue was still great and works with CW5 pretty snugly despite some obvious errors which we can ignore. 9The ending of 535, for example, just dosen't work.)

RRRGGH!!! This issue bothered me so much! It was so obvious that Tony was going to shut down Spidey's armor, but since it didn't happen in CW #5, I was hoping they'd avoid that. But no, JMS had to continue villifying Tony. Especially with that splash page at the end. I just don't understand it. JMS was writing Tony so well in the earlier issue, but now he's just the villain. It stinks. At least he didn't pull any punches on Peter, he just tried to shut him down.

However, I have to say I absolutely loved the exchange about Wicked in the opening. I love that musical to death and it's great to see it acknowledged in other media. And "Defying Gravity" is one of my favorite songs.

I actually loved that scene, because it highlighted Peter's brain. Tony was the one pushing for Peter to use it more often, and it was a nice piece of writing to have Peter to just that at Tonys expense.

Do I think that having an "off" switch for Peter's armor villifies Tony? Not really. Yeah, it does on some level make him sound like a bad friend for not trusting Peter the whole time, but Peter did end up turning on him so it's not like it wasn't unfounded.

We ALL knew the off switch was there... it was just a question of a writer showing it.

what did you think about peter's speech at the end?
do you disagree with him? do you think that safety is more important that freedom?

I agree. Putting a safeguard in the suit was the obvious thing to do, even for someone who isn't completely paranoid about his armor like Tony. You don't discard a loaded weapon.

It doesn't mean Tony's a bad guy, it just means he's minimally observant.

Actually, the continuity worked really well here, which impressed me.

1-) IM tackles Spidey at the end of 535, running trough a well.

2-) IM and Spidey talk, Spidey jumps out of window, in CW 5.

3-) IM goes after Spidey to try to stop him again in 536.

This also portrays Tony in a positive light, since he tried to do everything he could to stop Spidey, even after Maria Hill told him to stand down and let the thunderbolts handle it.

Seriously, I was expecting a disaster out of this issue in more ways than one, and was pretty impressed.

Yeah... really the only bit that really bothers me is the whole issue of Tony saying the prison is temporary.

Outside of that, I do think everything flows together reasonably well when you get all the pieces and start putting them together in your head.

When you have 2 books that interconnect back and forth this much, I suppose it's almost impossible not to have a few minor continuity glitches but overall this wasn't too bad at all.
