Default Got ideas for Oz books? Post them here!

I tried recently to write an Oz book called The Great War of Oz but I have enough stuff to work on already so I abandoned it. Here's what I have for the plot so far.

The Nome King was last seen turned into a cactus by Himself the Elf. Naturally, he didn't want to be a cactus for the rest of his immortal life, so he hatched a plan.

The elf had neglected to remove his magic, so he enchants his spines so if anyone touches them, he'd be turned back to normal.

A Winkie happens to walk by and pricks herself on the cactus, restoring the Nome King. He escapes underground to plan revenge.

Here's where it gets good. :)

He deicdes that he's outmatched by Dorothy, Ozma, Tattypoo (Good Witch of the North) Glinda, and the Wizard... so he decides to bring the Wicked Witches of the East and West back to life!

He does this with an ancient spell book, and the Witches' remains are brought to his hiding spot and brought back to life.

The Wicked Witch of the East is confused; she wonders where her silver shoes have gone. The Nome King tells her that they're lost forever in the Impassable Desert.

The Wicked Witch of the West is very angry because her wolves, crows, bees, and Golden Cap that controlled the Winged Monkeys are all gone or used up.

The Nome King tells them that Dorothy and Ozma are the princesses of Oz, and that they should probably go after Ozma first.

The Witch of the West hits him with her umbrella, saying if Dorothy came to rescue her, they can't hurt Dorothy because of Tattypoo's protection kiss.

The Wicked Witch of the East gets a grin on her face... and she says when a Witch dies, her magic does as well. (The shoes were magical on their own, and that's why they still worked)

So they decide to kill Tattypoo, thus removing the magical kiss so they can defeat Dorothy and regain control of Oz.

Meanwhile, Glinda's Magic Book of Records says the following.

"The Nome King has resurrected the Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West, and they plan to take over Oz."

That's all I have so far.

Anyone else have ideas for Oz books?

    The Darkest Night of Oz.

An elderly Dorothy gets whisked away in a flurry of senility to the land of Oz, where she meets her friends one last time. It'll be a heartwrenching tale of an elderly lady visited by her friends long since forgotten. As her friends bring up memories, they realize that the Dorothy Gale they once knew is dead and buried underneath the ruins of her mind. Dorothy dies surrounded by her friends in the Royal Palace of Oz...

Not bad, mon ami. I'd like to see where the old crew would fit in the story. The Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Lion, the Wizard, Jack Pumpkinhead, the Sawhorse, Tik-Tok(my favorite of Baum's original characters who didn't appear in the movie). Plus of course making up new characters that fit the feel of the classic stories.

Would Elphaba(the WWW, according to Gregory Maguire's "Wicked") try and reclaim her territories? Would her sister conquer Munchkinland again? If they were to kill the Wizard, would the magic that gave Scarecrow his brain, Tinman his heart and Lion his courage die as well(it's been awhile since I read the original source material, but IIRC in the book there was some actual magic involved in their gaining what they sought, as opposed to the psycological "you've always had a brain/heart/nerve within you" angle of the movies)?

This could be one epic little throwdown.

Actually in the original books it wasn't known if the Wicked Witches of the West and East were sisters. Baum never said they were, but then again he didn't say they weren't.

I suppose before they go off to kill the Good Witch of the North, they'd have to get armies...the Witch of the West could befriend a swarm of locusts in lieu of bees, and they could eat valuable crops, thus weakening the people they're going to conquer...

...and the Witch of the East could...um...enslave the Munchkins again? It's hard to write a character who got killed in the first 3 pages. (Seriously, in the original book the tornado whisks Dorothy off to Oz in 3 pages.)

...and the Nome King could turn the people that didn't obey them into stone!

Too bad I don't have time to write it. :o

Why would they do that? Vivid Video just gave them a three picture deal and their personal parking spaces.

Damn, it was years since I read those. Back then I could proably have come up with a ton of stuff. Now, I'll need to do some research.

I came up with this idea that Ozma leaves Oz for a vacation. She comes to some typical town, uses her magic to fight crime, sees the sights, and falls for a boy. The longer she stays outside Oz, the older she becomes(although she will age at an incredibly slow rate: she reaches the age of, say,16 and stays at that age). Her absense from Oz causes the country to slowly loose its magic until it starts becoming a mix of modern world and magic. If Ozma doesn't return, Oz will eventually lose all its magic.

But she doesn't want to come back.
Thus do I write the first chapter of my new scripture. And the first verse is "Let it all burn."

    L. Frank Baum(Oz's creator) wrote 10 sequels to the original book before his death(Scarecrow of Oz, Ozma of Oz, Dororthy and the Wizard in Oz, The Emerald City of Oz, The Patchwork Girl of Oz, King Rinkitink in Oz, The Tin Man of Oz, The Lost Princess of Oz, The Magic of Oz, and Glinda of Oz). Princess Ozma is the true heir to the throne of Oz who took the throne in Ozma of Oz.
Thus do I write the first chapter of my new scripture. And the first verse is "Let it all burn."
