I think im crazy but Jim Croce is always how i wanted Bob Dylan to sound and i wish he did sound like that so i could like him.

Well he's not really doing the same thing as Dylan,so I don't really quite see the connection, but Croce was still an excellent song writer and singer.

He really created some very sweet and decent music during his short life.

Yes thank you ( i still see the dylan comparison) just think of what he could have accomplished if he had lived longer.

I've been wanting to check out more of his stuff for a little while now and this has just reinforced that desire. I would think Cat Stevens would be a better comparison than Dylan surely.

Yes of course, but i was just pointing out that i never really understood why Dylan was so popular
when i find his recorded songs lacking in things besides songwriting that makes a good song.
stuff like melodies and hooks and stuff like that.

Well, I do disagree with you about Dylan but I do understand where you're coming from - he is a bit of a tough nut to crack.

From what i've heard and seen he is much more engaged in a live setting.

The thing about Dylan, is that if you listen to his songs sung by other people, or on that album where he stopped smoking, the one with Lay Lady, Lay, you hear the melodic stuff. Far more than in his usual "style," which I agree, can be grating at times.

I really loved Jim Croce's music, and his social and political commitment to causes like hunger. I think it was when Band Aid, and USA for Africa got going that his widow said he was up in heaven saying, "It's about time!" He was killed on the L.I.E., or Long Island Expressway, which is a very dangerous road, that kills a lot of people, and it amazes me that even after a loss of a giant like Croce, it's still not been altered.

I thought he died in a plane crash the one Dylan song i've heard that i liked was the one about Hurricane Carter that had a great melody and was extremely passionate.
Lay lady Lay is allright in my book but no great shakes.

"Lay Lady, Lay" is one that I found troubling as a kid. It's too honest, and I think it's only really understandable when you've wanted, or have been wanted in that way.

Dylan's voice has never sounded better than on that song.
