    Default Spider-Man 3 Pre-Release Discussion

Here is the place where we dance, sing, and discuss Spider-Man 3.

(Note: anyone who dances and/or sings will be banned)

This is a spoiler thread, so for people who want to keep their eyes virginal, be warned. Not everything will be put in spoil tags.

Talk trailers, talk TV spots, talk pre-production photos, talk interviews...just don't talk trash about one another.

EDIT: As the novelization of the movie has been made available, I ask that you keep specific spoilers from the book in spoiler tags.

    Enjoy!

Default Spider-Man 3 Trailer Reaction Thread

Man, if you haven't seen this then go check it out at: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_p.../spider-man_3/

This movie is going to be incredible. Sam Raimi is a genius, and has previously done a wonderful job on the first 2 films. Plus with 3 villians in one film this should prove to be action packed from beginning to end. Visually this film will be stunning, with Venom and Sandman being 2 of the hardest villians to bring to the silver screen, the CGI in this film is going to set all kinds of new standards. We also saw a shot of gwen stacy dancing with peter in the trailer, is this the start of a new romance? Will MJ and Harry start dating? And who knows if gwen will even survive to the end of the movie?
We also see peter grasping for a wedding ring? Seeing the symbiote crawling around and swarming over peter was fantastic. Hopefully we will see some new twists to favorite characters and a great new story next may.

I'm afraid Spider-man 3 will be like X-men 3: too many characters and no plot development or character development. Let's hope I'm wrong.

I don't see how it could be as character heavy as X-Men 3. It's not like they are introducing that many new characters. We've already had plenty established about Peter, May, Mary Jane, Harry, and the others who've been in Spider-Man 1 and 2. So really you have Sandman and Venom, who are new. As well as whoever this 4th villain is, whether it's Black Cat or Lizard. If it's Lizard, we already have some development for him in Spider-Man 2. Of course then there's also Gwen Stacy who needs to be introduced. But honestly it's not really that many new characters to develop or focus on, considering it's the third film of the series.

Part of what made the first two films great was that they kept it to one villain and therefore, had time to develop the other characters and subplots.

I have a feeling that this could suffer the fate of the Batman films with too many villains and characters and not enough time to develop them.

Think about it: They have to introduce the symbiote, show Harry as the Goblin, work Sandman and Venom in there and introduce Gwen, in addition to the established characters.

I have a feeling one villain - possibly Sandman - will be dealt with early on, leaving the rest of the film open for the two others.

I'm sure it will be good - hopefully Sam Raimi and the screenwriters will find a way to make this work. Almost seems like one of those old annuals where the villains team up!

What are you talking about, dude? They barely have to develop any characters. Know why? Because most of the characters are already there. There's no chance this film will suffer from the Batman Forever syndrome. Sam Raimi is a far cry from Joel Schmaucher. They only have to introduce two characters, really.

Harry as the Goblin was basically set up in 2 already. We're already sympathetic to his cause. Not a whole lot of time has to be spent on his character.

And I thought it was pretty common knowledge 'round these parts, or at least a rumor had in high regards, that Brock will not get the symbiote until the end leaving the entire movie for us to get to know him.

The Sandman does not need much of a backstory to work. He doesn't even need an origin, man. He's just a giant dude who turns into Sand. But I got a feeling Raimi is going to pull the "big, dumb lug who doesn't really want to be a criminal" card.

The fourth villian, if there is one, will no doubt be a throwaway villian. Maybe reoccuring, so once Peter gets the symbiote he can beat the guy's ass hardcore.

Batman Returns was great and had three villains if you go ahead and count Christopher Walkin's character as a villain. Catwoman, Penguin, and Walkins all had character development and it turned out great. What made Batman 3 and 4 stink to high heaven was the director trying to re-create the old Live Action Batman series from the 70's.

I don't think there is a 4th villain. I think that was just confusion in which Venom was supposed to be, and to the casual movie-goer, is still a surprise third act villain. The movie, by my guess will revolve around Peter trying to fight his inner darkness while Sandman and GG2 are caught revolving around his darker actions. It will all lead up to the third act where he fights Venom. Venom being the physical manifestation of what Peter almost became himself and what he needs to defeat and conquer and move on with his life. The physical manifestation of his darker psychological dragon which he must slay.

I venture to bet that "Venom" won't be in the movie at all, or if he is it will be at the very end and not do the character justice like Absorbing man in the Hulk movie.

No, they said the fourth villain will be announced at Comic Con.

The 4th villain will most likely be the Bruce Campbell cameo as Quentin Beck. More fanboy teasing, in other words.

As for the trailer, I love it. I was never a big fan of Venom being in the films this early - I always thought of him as a great villain that suffered from overexposure, plus I really wanted to see The Lizard brought to life. But I like the way Raimi seems to be using Venom in this movie, as if he's exploring Peter's indulgence in his powers and how it can corrupt him.

Judging from the trailer, I think this movie will be fantastic. Gotta wonder how they will tell the story of Peter recieving the symbiote. Obviously they can't go into the whole Secret Wars. And the rest of the symbiote saga from the Amazing Spiderman I imagine will have to be altered as well. For one thing, I seriously doubt the FF will make a cameo to rid Peter of the symbiote.

I still think they should have used the black costume design from the comic, but the trailer still looked awesome.

well if the black suit in the trailer is what we can expect, im really let down its just the regular movie spidey suit but black, which isnt really cool, i wish it was solid black with the giant white spider on it, with the big white eyes, it should look alive on him.

Do you mean you're disappointed in the symbiotic Spiderman suit or did you think that was Venom?

From whats going around the net, the white spider is being saved for Venom. It seems Venom's size will be closer to Spider-man's- so I'd imagine the comic book version of the black costume ( with the white eyes) are being reserved for Brock at the finale.
