Default Superman II: Richard Donner cut

Okay, so this version of the film is going to be dramatically different, but Superman II was already a great movie. I really want to find a review on this version before deciding whether or not to preorder. Have their been any advanced screenings? Has anyone reviewed it (or even heard anything about it other than the amount of new footage included)?

Check out Bluetights.net or the Superman Homepage for reviews/talks about the new version.

Even without the reviews though, based on the greatness of Superman the Movie (#1) alone should be enough reason to get this one. But thats just my opinion.

I'm actually not a fan of any of the original Superman movies (Although I do think Reeve is fantastic), but I think it's quite cool that they are releasing this.

why preorder at all? why not wait till it's out, rent it, and then decide to buy.

Some friends of mine have seen it, and said it's great. Margot Kidder and several of the cast members were there, and afterward, Donner suggested that Singer just have Stamp, O'Hallaran, and Douglas emerge from the Phantom Zone in the "SR" Follow-up, ready for battle! Response, they said, was mixed. Especially where the Warners' execs were involved.

Yeah, I don't really like the original films either. I'm not much of a Donner fan, or a Singer fan. I know those guys do all their PR right and pretend to all the fans that they love Superman and they love the character and the comics, but its all BS. They don't care... they only care about their paycheck from WB.

I'll be interested to see this, anyway.. just out of curiosity. But I'm not expecting anything special.

I'd love to be proven wrong though!

    "Richard Donner don't care"???????

    Are you kidding?????

For SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE the producers wanted the movie to be pure camp.
It was Donner who said Hell no and treated the movie, the fans, and most importantly Superman with respect.

Thank you Richard Donner, for showing a then 15 year old kid why he loves Superman.
And thanks to your current run on ACTION COMICS you're still showing me.

    "only care about the paycheck".

I love Superman 2, but I have a feeling Donner's version is going to be better.

Needlessly to say I'm very excited about this.

Does the Donner cut still have Kryptonians using telekinetic vision and shooting beams from their hands? I shouldn't think so, but I just want to be sure.

Aw man I hope not. The original sequel was great, but that was the one thing that bugged me. I hope Donner subtracts the crazy powers.

I'm really looking forward to finally seeing the Donner cut...not that there was much wrong with Superman II anyway IMO, but just out of sheer curiosity I'm really excited. It's gonna be cool seeing just how different Superman II would've been if Donner had stayed on to complete the movie.

I'm also really glad that it's going to be released as a stand alone DVD (including the original version) and not just available as part of the new box set. I already own the 4-disc set of Superman The Movie, so that makes me a little reluctant to shell out for the box set to be honest.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to release Superman III or Superman IV from this box set as stand alone DVDs? As I understand it the new editions from the box set have loads of extras that weren't on the original DVDs of these two films.

Also, does anyone know if Superman II (original version), III and IV have deleted scenes inserted back into them like the DVD release of Superman The Movie did?

Yeah you should buy it because the 1st Superman was directed by Richard Donner. Superman II was directed by Richard Donner and the guy who directed Supes III and IV by himself. In my opinion, III and IV were the worst so you better get the Richard Donner cut because if you want Superman II in it's superior version you'll want to get it because the original version was directed by Donner and the other guy so the original was partly good and bad.

I'll try and pick it up when I get a chance. I loved Superman, but I thought Superman 2 was a little lacking. And it certainly ages badly compared to Superman, IMO.

Most of Lester's changes/decisions just seemed out of place.

You're kidding, you don't even know these people.

Without Singer SR could have been an utter mess with Superman matrix fighting bad guys. Even Kevin Smith walked away from the early mess.
