Default What Ever Happened to Bibbo?

Where's Bibbo Bibowski Post IC? Has he made any appearances as of late? Or has he been rubbed out of continuity?

Has he gone the way of Crystal Pepsi and the Macarena, never to be seen or heard from again?

Idunno about you guys but I happen to miss the big galoot!

Jeez, good question. I haven't seen Bibbo since they got rid of the triangle numbering.

One assumes he's still running his bar and calling Superman his fav'rit.

The Superman books don't have the depth of characters they used to. Metropolis used to have a lot character in itself, almost like the Simpson's Springfield. These days it's a fairly generic city with not many recognizable characters, which is too bad.

Kurt's said his focus is creating new characters outside the core cast, I think.

Bibbo is out there. However, I think the creators are wary of putting more focus on Metropolis itself than Superman.

If a story that suits Bibbo comes along, I'm sure we'll see him. However, I doubt he'll play a major role anytime soon anymore than we'll see Steve Lombard play a major role anytime soon.

Personally, I don't find Bibbo very funny or very touching in the way that some people do. He adds some nice flavor occasionally but I think if he's taking away page space that could be accomplished using Jimmy, Lois, Perry or Lana, he's probably appearing somewhere he shouldn't.

But hey! He wound up in SUPERMAN RETURNS! Aside from Lex's newfound fortune, he was the only real post-Crisis crossover into the film too.

    So he has his fans.

I'm fairly certain that the bartender in Superman Returns didn't end up being named after Bibbo, as I specifically checked the credits just for that.

Part of my current frustration with the Superman titles is that ever since the triangle numbering ended, the rotating creating teams have dropped the supporting cast introduced post-Man of Steel. Bibbo, Keith (who's supposed to be Perry's adopted son but is apparently locked away in the Whites' attic being fed fish heads), Cat Grant, Jose Delgado, and more are hardly ever seen or mentioned. At least Ron Troupe is hanging on.

Last time he showed up (which was years ago, I think) he also seemed to have aged quite a bit, which was too bad, I liked the young Keith and his perspective on Superman.

Lately writers have obsessed with "distilling" characters to their base elements, which is okay in theory, but can also just make the character's world (and by extension, the character himself) dull. To use my Springfield analogy again, imagine if "The Simpsons" focused mostly on just the family themselves, while the townsfolk were just generic background characters. It would lose a lot of its appeal, and that's how I feel about the Superman books lately.

    Bibbo is awesome

I liked how after Suoerman died, put on an "outfit" and saved saved some drowning kittens but only one survived

that was so sweet it gave me a sugar headache

Puppies, actually. That and one printing mistake later, was how we got the first post-Crisis Krypto! :)

Yeah, and I'm also bitter about Bibbo's Krypto being ignored in the Super books too.

I understand the desire to just focus on the core supporting players of Superman (Lois, Jimmy, Perry, Luthor, the Kents) but the only reason they're so important to the mythos is that they were actually given a chance to become so. Had Jimmy Olsen been dropped after only ten years or so, he wouldn't be held up as an important supporting character either.

Perhaps I should consider starting a B.E.A.T. to get Bibbo back where he belongs.

Bibbo was seen briefly on the alien spaceship that kidnapped every one in Metropolis in Our Worlds At War, and in the Ending Battle story that ended with Manchester Black offing himself, he was gathered (as was Kieth) at the steelworks.

I'd rather they bring Steve Lombard back and send Bibbo to the knacker's yard . I personally think he ranks up there with the most annoying comic characters of all time. Hmmmmm that might be a good topic;)
