Default New Writer for Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis

For the five of us that are enjoying Aquaman's newest direction, change is coming.

Kurt Busiek talks about leaving Aquaman and a new mystery project, which is still a mystery.

New writer Tad Williams talks about his plans for the book.

Just wondering...did the story actually go anywhere yet? I gave up after the fourth or fifth issue of Arthur accomplishing absolutely nothing. I made my bet then that the story wouldn't get anywhere before Busiek abandoned the project. Was I right?

    LOL :D

    Make that 6 of us.

    Thanks for the links.

What I think hurt this book was the delays because of the art. The art was amazing but toooooooooo slooooooow.

Actually, sales OYL have been far above the Arcudi/Sub Diego stuff.

So I think they actually cracked a dozen here, people... :p

I'm a long time Aquaman fan whose been reading steady since the relaunch at number 1. All this change is killing me. It's rather frustrating to be an aquaman fan.

This blows. And I garuntee it's going to screw the book in some way. Part of why Arthur's books have sucked for the past six years is because there hasn't been a steady writer on them for over a year. When he became the Water Bearer, that flopped and the writer dipped, then someone else took over and gave him Sub Diego, then he dipped, and the guy after him tried to run with it, but then the Crisis was coming, so he had to wrap his story around that, and then Kurt came and introduced us to "Conan underwater," and now he's headin' out.

Any of those stories could've been incredibly interesting. Aquaman with a magic hand made of water, fighting Lovecraftian monsters from the new magician-ruled Atlantis. Aquaman ruling over his own undersea kingdom after San Diego slides into the ocean. Aquaman discovering more about himself in a medieval undersea world in turmoil. All of them sound like they could be interesting, but they're never improved upon enough by their original creative teams to really flourish.

    !@#$% shame.
    Go !@#$ yourself.

    HOT DAMN! Great news.

    Williams's plans sound very good.

I have been enjoying the series so far, but I hate the fact that they are already changung the creative team. This is a sure way for people to drop the book, I was looking for something to drop and this just made my mind up for me.

It's inevitable that Aquaman will have a lot of different creative teams because the book is rarely popular enough to keep its creative team.

DC should try giving him a backup in Action Comics or something.

Aquaman's been a revolving door for a while now.
I've been enjoying it since OYL...but I love almost anything Busiek does. Annoyed that they're doing the ol' switcheroo again, but I liked what Tad Williams had to say and, furthermore, I'm VERY excited about a secret Kurt Busiek project!

    This is pretty disappointing.

I was looking forward to good, long runs that told a complete story on JLA, Conan and Aquaman. Guess I'll be cancelling my planned purchase of the Sword of Atlantis trade.

People used to compare Williams to Tokien when I worked at the fantasy book store in the 90s; he might be great for this title.

It's good news for Tad Williams but not sure how I feel about Busiek leaving. Not sure how it will affect the title as well and sales. Hmmm, one of those scratchy chin, wait and see moments.
