Has this ever been brought up in her series? She was born with her powers and they became active when she was 15. This seems to suggest that she is a mutant.

I could swear they brought it up once, when Spider-Girl met the X-People.Originally Posted by Young Avenger
The upshot seems to be (and this has been brought up in the regular MU as well) that one can be born with power and not technically be a mutant.
Mutants have a specific X-gene that grants them their powers, while the Spider-Girls and Patriots and what have you get their power from different genes.
Silly? Yes, of course. But there it is. :)

That doesn't make any sense. Franklin Richards doesn't have the x-gene and hes classified as a mutant.Originally Posted by Sean Whitmore

Eh, I can never figured out the difference of a mutant and a superpowered person, other than the possession of x-genes.
Yes, she's a mutant. I don't think it's ever been stated she doesn't have the X-gene either.
I think she is a mutant, simply because she was born with her ability and they didn't kick on until she was a teen, like most mutants. Like Orbis De Ignis said who said she didn't have the X gene. Also stated that in most cases the father carries the x gene.

The powers of Spider-Man were passed onto his daughter, much like how She-Hulk got powers through a blood transfusion. It isn't that hard to assume heroes' offspring would share their abilities. That's how J2 has powers, correct?
However, Spider-Girl possesses a power that Peter has never had, even on Earth 982. She can repel stuff from her after sticking to it. Either this is an ability gained due to her powers not being pure (like Jennifer being able to willingly become She-Hulk) or if they are mutant-related has never been established.

Spiderman is not a mutant I don't thinik may is either
May, at least, considers herself a mutant. One of her schoolmates made a remark about muties and she thought "I wonder what so-and-so would think if he knew I was a mutant!"
"I think we can help. Mercedes is black; I'm gay. We make culture." - Kurt, Glee.
In 616 May wasn't considered a mutant according to ye ol' wikipedia. I think it's just about the X-Gene rather than getting your powers at puberty or anything else, since guys like Nightcrawler looked like he does since birth.
I don't think so. He was labeled as a omega mutant and listed as part of the 198 (Don't know why).Originally Posted by Sean Whitmore
I'd assume she was a mutant since Reed and Sue richards child franklin is often classified as a Mutant.
They should have played that up a bit more would have been intresting character devlopment. Still I thought she techincally once then again "Quake" the Bendis character from Secret Wars has powers but is'nt a Mutant since she's a child of Mister Hyde who just used drugs to beef himself up.

Yea I remember something like that too. Always thought she was a mutant cause she was born with her powers, the x-gene thing never really occured to me.Originally Posted by Black Atom

Well someone should be able to clear this up easily. I mean I always assumed from reading Comics that people on Earth BORN with there powers were considered Mutants. Which is where Spider-girl falls under. If that's not true, please name one hero born with their powers who is not one.
