Ult Spidey #101 Letters Page ... HUH??

Okay, I'm wondering if there was a "variant edition" of an Ultimate Spidey issue I never heard about.

From the letters page of issue #101:

Q: "Who is Arachnoman and what issue is he in?"

A: "Arachnoman appeared in a special out-of-continuity variant edition of issue 54, where, instead of making a Spider-Man movie, the filmmakers were making Arachnoman. Long story. Ended happily."

It was a variant of issue #54, just like it says. It was the start of the arc (Hollywood) involving the making of a Spider-Man movie or, in the case of the variant, and Arachnoman movie.

And this probably belongs in the Ultimate forum.

Bizarre. I never heard of it. Was it a limited-run thing? Different art or just different dialogue?

The art was the same, except with the movie character being Arachnoman.
There probably was some changed dialogue. I didn't buy it to know for sure.

You know I recall there being a reference or someting to arachnoman without the variant. Maybe it is just playin' the game, but I do recall something being said and having seen the drawing you displayed.
