Was he taking a shot at Slott or am I misreading that?

Cool! Jeph Loeb takes the time to read my stuff! Yay! :)

BTW, I thought Loeb's last episode of HEROES was super-awesome-cool. Loved the ending with the cheerleader on the slab! That was freaky! In a GOOD way!

This was a truly powerful interview, one of the best I've ever read of a top-tier creator, and the rapport with the interviewer was clear. He pulled out some good stuff from Loeb's mind.

Jeph made me feel guilty for ever flaming Rob Liefeld, even after I had already decided to forever renounce my former Liefeld-boycotting ways after meeting him at San Diego and discovering that his wife and I have mutual friends. Everything becomes different when you realize these creators are simply people who love their families, love their work when they can, and just try to do the best they can with the talent they've been blessed with. Flaming just has no purpose.

I have to say I'm surprised that there seemed to be an undertone of dissatisfaction in Loeb's comments regarding his relationship with DC editorial and management. For all the glowing things he said about Marvel and Joe Q's management style, he must not have liked working under Dan DiDio much. Or am I reading it all the wrong way?

I wish more of today's creators wrote Dan Slott stories. The world would be a better place.

No no no, you are misreading. Jeph was saying it as a list when he spoke to me. When you read it you should read it like this:

    1) It wasn't a Dan Slott story.
    2) It was not intended to say “look how clever I'm being.”
    3) It was intended to say that all of comicdom comes from those two heroes and in the end - it does!

    Glad you guys like!

Thanks for clearing that up. I was reading it as the "look how clever I'm being" comment being what he thought Slott's writing was like. I'm glad I was wrong.

I don't know why we need an Ultimate Wolverine story when we already have a Wolverine. What is the point? Why? Where? Why have an ultimate version that is so much like the original one he has his same history. He even has the same new name.

James! How bland. My brother's name is James.

    Bah!

I saw Liefeld on Youtube talking about this and it's interesing to see him work at this, even going so far to test out colors himself.

This is a great interview, I love to see someone setting the record straight once and for all about what went down with Liefeld leaving heroes reborn. having said that, here is a few tidbits, you guys might be interested in,
Here is the most hilarious fan trailer ever for onslaught reborn:

Am I the only one that thought Jeph sounded a bit petty in this interview? He took a few quick shots at people who are at DC (Didio, Harras) and some of their editorial policies. Seemed a bit uneeded to me.

Either way, there was some interesting insightful stuff in there. Good job, Robert.

Still doesn't make any sense unless it was a shot at Slott. Why would he even be included in a "list" like that unless it WAS a dig? Definitely soured the rest of the interview for me, because he came off so badly with that answer.

I didn't take it as a *slight* against Slott's writing when I read it the first time, and I was connecting the two statements, not reading it as a list.

I thought the subtext was far more prominent in his apparent criticisms of DiDio and DC's editorial/schedule choices. That made it seem like he couldn't wait to get out of DC's stable, and the only reason he was there was love of the characters.
