I especially liked your Johann - very nifty and I love the belt detail and his helmet has faint shades of movie Kroenen - and that's a good thing!!! Love it. Had a look at your site and found a sketch here that just tickled me to bits - it's called 'Having a Break'

Have you thought about posting these over on the art section on www.deltorofilms.com?

I really like your Johnann. Is the 2 fingers up like the like the middle finger in America? Or is it a peace sign? Why did I type this? Cool sketch.

I like that Johann quite a bit! It seems that you locked right in on Del Toro's fascination with technology, and how tech and the supernatural can have a really interesting quasi-relationship to each other. Great stuff!

    Looking through your portfolio there..

Some of the concept characters feel a little off, but they still look fantastic! The rest of the images on there are really great, too. Certainly a lot of detail work in those.

Cyber_Ghost-thank you. What do you mean "off". Can you give me more of a critique.:)

Both of these are cool, I think they'd fit right into the style of the movies. Like everyone, I really like Johann a lot.

You're really talented :) drawing clothes with a natural flow is hard.

Call me old school but I just adore the clothes Mignola created for his characters, however boring they might seem to some ppl.
I'm a child of the 80's and I love leggings, tight pants, vests, bombers and FLAT soled boots.

    Baggy clothes are...blah

    i dunno, just my opinion.

I really disliked the boots Ron Perlman was wearing in the first movie. With those think ass soles..yuk!
I hope they're gonna dress him up in those classic black shorts and jungle boots for the 2nd movie.
And I want to see Liz wear her B.P.R.D. bomber!

I think those "big soles" on his shoes were to make Hellboy look bigger. I think I read some where that if they had the time & money they would have done to Hellboy what they did to that guy in the Harry Potter movies where he is much larger than everyone else (maybe not to that extent). But bigger.

Yeah, I guess thats why. It would have been really cool if they would have made hooves for him. Or maybe it would have looked fake..hm?

I definitely want to see the bomber jacket for Liz also.

But to get to your other point here...

I was so hoping that we'd se H.B's hooves in the movie and we didn't. I'm really hoping that they get some kind of screen time in the second film.

Hellboy's hooves were in the first movie. They appear in Hellboy's first scene, where he's working out in his bedroom at the BPRD. You have to look closely, but you can see them. He's barefoot, and he has hooves.

I remember GDT mentioning that they had planned to shoot most of the movie with him in his hooves, but they just looked too cumbersome and unnatural when he ran. So, they took 'em out, and replaced them with boots. I guess the idea is that the boots are custom-fitted to work with his hooves.

Also, ditto what everyone's said here about Liz's bomber jacket -- it's gotta be in the movie. I'll also join the chorus by saying that your take on Johann is very slick, Mack; however, an insider at AICN posted news about Hellboy 2's plot, and he mentioned that Johann wears an old-fashioned detective jacket in the movie. From the sounds of it, he looks like Dick Tracey with a fog-filled bubble-head.

    I like your take, though.
