I'm thinking up picking up the trades of the Losers series. Anyone recommend it? I enjoyed Adam Strange by Diggle. What is the series about essentially?

Basic plot: a special ops unit gets doublecrossed and are set up to be killed by a mysterious CIA rogue agent named Max. They escape the trap and hook up with an Afghan femme fatale who has her own score to settle with Max. They proceed to take the fight to Max but they quickly find out that all is not what it seems. Max is pretty high on the food chain and he has set his own plans in motion and would think nothing of finishing the job he started if they get in his way.

I highly recommend it. It's like a big widescreen summer blockbuster...but smart. ;) The story is good, there some nice plot twists and turns, the characters are great(Cougar and Aisha are damn near iconic) and Jock and his fill ins provided awesome visuals.

One of my favourite books in recent years. Not the deepest book, but Diggle and Jock do a great job of blowing stuff up, people shooting at other people, and wacky and intricate heists. It's an awesome action movie type film, kind of like the A-Team crossed with Ocean's Eleven. Some of the characters are great - you've got to love Cougar, Aisha, and Jensen.

Jock's a fantastic artist with a great eye for dynamic and exciting actions scenes. Not all of his fill-ins are quite as good - I kind of wish they'd just taken some time off here and there to allow Jock to do the whole thing - but there are some nice ones by Ale Garza and Colin Wilson.

Awesome series. I highly recommend it if you like books that are fun and exciting.

When art & writing comes together in a nice tight package it makes for great entertainment which is what you will get with The Losers. Also there are plans to make The Losers into a movie. So lots of people think this series has appeal.

    You'll love it.

I've only read the first trade, but I really didn't like it. The art was appealing except that I couldn't tell two of the characters apart. The story was confusing though (possibly partly because of the art problem) and what I did follow did nothing for me.

I haven't read Adam Strange, but between this, Swamp Think and Lady Constantine I've pretty much given up hope of enjoying anything Andy Diggle writes (which is a good thing for my wallet really)

Ditto, almost word for word. I have to admit though, that I understood what was going on much better upon a second read of The Losers, but I ended up giving it away to a friend.
    - Art is whatever makes you feel human.

    - "You are what you love, not what loves you." - Donald Kaufman

    - "Deserve's got nothing to do with it." - William Munny

    - "Acquiescence. It's not so hard, really. You. Just. Give. In." - Col. Ives

I read the first trade - it was alright.
Art was nice, and the story was entertaining enough, but it did feel like a big summer movie... but I want more than that from a comic - hell, from anything.
I don't watch action movies by choice, so reading them, unless they are expectionally good, isn't somthing I do.

That said, I have considered picking up the second trade, just to see if it lives up to some of the potnetial shown in the first trade, however I've just never gotten around to it - too much other good stuff to buy.

The books biggest problem is that it tries to be intelligent one second - with clever twists and such - but the next it's falling back on improbable twists, and characters getting by on luck.
Switching back and forth between the two constantly just lessens both.

You gave a book you didn't like to a friend?
    I'm not you.
    So you know I'm right.

    The Losers rock!!!!
I am not sure who said it was like a cross between the A Team and Ocean's 11 is right. Read the first three trades, then see what you think about it. the first trade for a series isn't always the best gauge, Fables for example, the story doesn't really get going till the third trade, then it all comes together. That is how Fables is and the Losers also. Once you find find out why the Losers have a beef wioth Max in volume 3, you almost HAVE to keep oing from there. They were a black ops team that went "off mission" to do the right thing. When you find out what happend to them there.....

Well anyway, some people like certain writing styles and some don't. I happen to dig what is going on in The Losers. I, for one, am glad that I tried it. I have bought all 5 trades in the past two weeks.
Chief Tyrol: We have to figure out which side we are on.

Col. Saul Tigh: Which side are we on? We're on the side of the Demons Chief. We're evil men in the garden's of paradise. Sent by the forces of Death and Destruction to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that?
