    Default Pipeline #489 - 24 Oct 2006

This week, two more hardcovered books get reviewed:

    * STREET FIGHTER: THE ULTIMATE EDITION
    * THE NEW AVENGERS, Volume 4: THE COLLECTIVE

Although, to be fair, the second "review" is more me whining about the whiners who whined at the original issues in the book as they were published, which is tough to do in a column with minimal spoilers. ::SIGH::

Two negatives make a positive. Let them whine. If they can dish it out, they best damn well be ready to take it.

I'm interested to see what you thought of "The Collective" story. It was probably my least favorite arc since the book was launched.

Well if anyone can do it, you can Augie!

I'm currently embroiled in an intense board sortie over at the Wildstorm board over my assertion that Morrison's Authority #1 was "boring," however I did want to throw two cents in on your most recent and most respectable collumn, Mr. De Bliek jr.

No one needs Scott Mccloud to point out that Street Fighter Udon books are GREAT comics! They ship late, as do most indies, but when they arrive they fully live up to their potential: Fun Fights, bright colors/costumes and lots of extras and entertainment!

Seems strange we need the more respectable and scholarly end of comics to justify the more fun and Zip-Pow-Bang end of the spectrum. I recently picked up DC's essential "Haunted Tank" trade...it has 500 pages of a HAUNTED TANK shooting nazi scum! KERPOW!!

There was a time when comics where exciting and entertaining. Everybody is currently in love with the notion that comics are some how High art. Folks need to come roll around in the gutters with us readers who like explosions, suplexes and ghost tanks to learn a thing or two about entertainment....maybe comics would sell more if they made an attempt at being fun.
