Default What do you look for in a fighting game?

I look for projectiles, i hate games like Tekken and Dead or Alive that seriously lack them. The only nonprojectile fighting game i really like is Soul Edge/Caliber because of the weapons. Basically i am more a Street Fighter, KoF, Battle Arena Toshinden and Mortal Kombat guy.

    How about you?
Yeah I give up. They would need like a bajillion UNs to take it out. And they would all have to work.

My tastes in fighting games usually depends on said game. While I love the Tekken series, I do not like DOA, I acutally find DOA more ..well i dunno, 'clumbersome'?...anyway.

But while I love the Tekken series, I think Killer Instinct on the SNES is the best fighting game I've ever played.

I've like Soul Calibur 2 but while it was good had no passion to get SC3.

There was this one fighting game on the Playstation, that I liked but i loaded if off a friend and can't rememebr it's name. They all had like neon weapons or soemthing and one had a giant yoyo...*shrugs*

Something outside what I think is the norm for fighting games.
Which is why love the Super Smash Bros games and actually enjoy playing Marvel Nemesis.

-Flexible combo systems most of all. If I can't get creative with my fights, I lose interest in the game real fast.
-Online Play. AI sucks balls. I need actual people to play against.

    - Original characters and movesets

    - solid gameplay

    - fluid animation

    - interesting backgrounds

which is why my favorite fighting game series is still STREET FIGHTER. and anybody who's played SFIII: Third Strike will tell you that it doesn't really get any better than that.

Tekken is a great series, i enjoy playing Tekken 5. however, generally when i'm playing a fighting game i want it to be FUN. Tekken demands to much because of it's fighting mechanics. it's interesting, but when i play a fighting game i want to lay back, relax and kick some ass, not stress trying to remember what that 10-hit button combo is

I have SFIII: Third Strike. Of course, it's awesome, and you don't have to worry about combos, you can parry (life saver) and stuff. However, there are three fighting games that I like more:

KOF XI (cause of Oswald: The coolest SNK character ever, though not my favorite).
    SCIII
and my true favorite (though it's the one I suck at, which really means I'm sub-par), VF4: Evolution.

What tekken are you playing? You know I do not think that I have completed or even bothered to complete a 10 hit combo. Stick to the single hit moves or short combos.

Killer Instinct on the other hand...all abotu the combos.

Yeah, Tekken has twice as many moves as you'll ever need to use to win a fight. They're fun to pull off in practice, but you try a lot of that and you'll get punked.

I'm not too picky about fighters, they just need to be fast, have reasonable button combinations, and cool characters.

2D. I love 2D fighting games. If it's done in sprites I will buy it without question.

Ergheiz IK might be spelling it wrong, but that was the name of it. Squaresoft made it. It was a few months after Final Fantasy VII came out, so the secret characters were all FF7 characters. (Cloud, Sephiroth, Yuffie, Vincent, Tifa)

It also had an RPG mode. That was actually what made teh game better, as I found myself playing that mode instead of the fighting game mode.

***I friggin' love Tekken and Soul Calibur. Interestingly enough, One of my favorite fighting games ever is Street Fighter Alpha 3.

To me, That was teh best Street Fighter ever made. Smooth controls, very fast response, HUGE variety in characters and styles, 3 different ways to charge your super move, quite challenging---but not SOO hard that it was a turn off, pretty good music (for a fighting game:D ), and the world tournament mode, (the one where you can get Shin Akuma/Evil Ryu/Guile) is still one of THE MOST FUN "extra modes" i had ever played. (The "Double-Dragon"-esque arcade mode in Tekken 3 and the Warcraft knockoff from SC3 are both very fun too!)

I enjoyed the Snk/Capcom games too.

    It's not Ergheiz...I remember that.

I'll go look at some websites to find it, I really liked the game, it wasn't that good but I liked it.

Aha, found it. Star Gladiator (image google search to get a look at it)

Odd thing really with fighting games for me is that I really like them but rarely have anyone to play them against, and computer can get repetative over time. I mean when I get a new Tekken it just goes to Ultra Hard, no point in fighting on easy....that's what I'd like actually, another 2 diffculty modes higher then Ultra Hard in Tekken.
