    Default Desolation Jones #7

    bad signal
    WARREN ELLIS

    DESOLATION JONES #7 came out
yesterday in the US. It'll be
interesting to see the reaction to
Zezelj; the pages are so radically
    different to Williams, after all.

I already sent an order off to my (Not-so)LCS before I heard it was coming.

I'll have to add it to my next order...

Who's got it, and how does it go without JH?

The dark humor that was in the first seems to be gone for the most part. The art is real nice

Unfortunately, the copy I got, two pages were misprinted and were lacking black ink. I'll check with my shop and see what they can do about it. Didn't realize it until I went to read it.

I just joined the series, but I love Warren Ellis' work, he's my favorite writer. Transmetropoltian and Planetary our two of my favorite series of all time.

    Intresting?

Zezelj is fantastic, and his work has always been favourably received before. I can't imagine there being any backlash - unless of course Ellis has written it simpler, because he's not working with an artist most famous for working with Moore.

Anoyne not familair with Zezelj, hit the cheap back issue bin at your comic shop and grab up the Vertigo mini 'Congo Bill'.
    The guy is amazing.
    I'm not you.
    So you know I'm right.

I enjoyed the issue and liked the artwork, but it will take some getting used to for me as the styles are fairly different. Tapper definitely had some funny moments, and this Asher character seems interesting enough.

Woah, this was awesome. Got it yesterday, read it last night.

I think the writing in this issue was possibly better than in any of the issues of the first arc, and the art was spectacular.
I'm not sure how well Zezelj will do the more surreal bits, but so far so good.

(I don't know if any of that makes sense. It's morning, I haven't had my coffee yet, cut me some slack...)

I don't know if I could agree that it was better than any of the first six (issue 2's introduction of Emily is heartbreakingly beautiful), but it was very, very good. I like the art, though I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss some of the detail that Williams brought. I thought that the color selection was extremely cool, though. I look forward to more, already.

Default Philip K. Dick and Radio Free Albemuth

For those who couldn't bother to figure it out, the Philip K. Dick was Radio Free Albemuth. The title was obscured by lettering.

I remember Ellis asking on a forum several months ago if anyone knew where Dick was living during his first "experience". It was Fullerton, where Jones' friend was living.

My guess is all this will come to play in future issues.

PS to Warren: I sent you an email right away with the Fullerton info. And you never even said thanks. I've been on Lithium ever since. And thinking about becoming an actor. Yeah, that's how bad it hurts.

I started to fall asleep near the end of the first storyarc, but the second story seems to be off to a promising start.

I was familiar with neither J. H. Williams III or Danijel Zezelj before DESOLATION JONES; unless you count their pages in the last TRANSMETROPOLITAIN trade.

Williams' pages had my eyes constantly wandering from the dialouge, scanning his art over and over as I re-read each page once or twice before turning to the next.

Zezelj's pages gave me a feeling of vaugeness, brought on mostly, I feel, by the colors. I liked the black on red panels; they gave the feeling of pain's immediate aftermath. From the first three fourths of the book I get the same visual feeling one gets when watching fuzzy television. The last fourth of the book was colorful enough to open my eyes wider with attention, but still had an over all feeling of blur.

Williams is co-creator, so that gives me hope for his return with another arch. I'll keep reading; I get what's going on, as in the book makes sense visually, it's just that feeling of blur. Though I'm sure I wouldn't think along these lines if I wasn't reading the book now, but if I'd pick it up in say five years, where I'd being seeing the series for the first time as a whole.
