Default Is Ultimate Peter Parker No More?

I've been thinking about what Peter Parker's home life will be post clone saga. Every story since the end of Hobgoblon has featured Peter as Spider-Man in action or Peter dealing with some aspect of Spider-Man's life. Spidey even stays that maybe it should be 'Peter Parker no more'. Given everything that has happened so far in the clone saga, especially in the last issue, I don't think Peter's home life will ever return to the series. What do you guys think?

And yes, I know Bendis could pull the "it's okay, everyone was just a clone" trick on us. If he does, I swear i'll drop the series.

Bendis has said post-Clone Saga will have a new status quo. I'm guessing new supporting characters, and new lifestyle. Things can't go back to the way they were; especially with May.

That doesn't mean he won't still have an alter ego in Peter Parker; but I have no doubt things will be different.

I really don't imagine that Bendis will pull the whole "everyone is clone card" man. If he does it would be awful, and I am sure he knows that. I agree with Foreigner that things will be diffrent. I really have to admit that before clone saga I had gotten a little burned out on USM. I think USM has done an outstanding job of carrying the essence of spidey.

I don't enjoy Bendis's writting in 616, but his USM has been outstanding. The clone saga has just shown his skill in wielding a good spider story.

I can't wait for the next issue, but at the same time I can not wait until the Clone saga is over. It is going to really change USM, and will most likily make me interested again.

    Don't worry too much man.

hmm...I really think that if they do "Peter Parker no More" the series is going to slide downhill rapidly. That's what always made Spider-man such a strong character. He's a real guy under the mask, with real problems. Having him become a full-time superhero, with no real life, plus all the recent developments..they are taking him away from what makes him special.

The clone saga is actually the first arc of this series that I haven't personally enojoyed. I just hope Bendis finds a way out of it, without screwing up everything we all know and love about this series.

I think he should have kept this clone story where it belonged...in the trash can...

But that being said, I think maybe what will happen is that Peter will retire for a bit, and Spidergirl (aka MJ apparently from what we've been seeing) will take over as the webhead. Not that I'm a fan of that....but I could see him doing it.

I'm going to wait until the end of the arc before deciding whether it holds water or not.

Call me crazy, but my least favorite arcs of USM so far have been the Green Goblin/Hobgoblin arcs (sorry - I'm partial to the goblin mask/glider in the 616 universe) and the X-Men storylines.

You know man I would not call you crazy for that. I almost one hundred percent agree with the mask idea. I liked how the Goblin and Peter could mock each other too. That can never really happen with the same effect.

If Peter started living with his dad or with SHIELD, it doesn't mean he'd stop being human. He'd still have to go to a school of some sort. He'd still have to find a way to live up to his responsibility.

New elements aren't necessarily worse than old ones.

I for one always like a change in the status quo. As long as you don't change the core concept of the character a good change is always welcome in my book.

Everything is controlled by a small evil group to which, unfortunately, no one we know belongs.

I agree. I didn’t even mind the Osborn’s mutating into Goblin creatures, rather than wearing masks/costumes, but a Goblin (Green or Hob) without a Goblin Glider and pumpkin bombs is no kind of Goblin at all, IMO.

Also, tying into this, the other issue I’ve had with Ultimate Spidey is they seem to be in a hurry to get some of these stories done and out of the way. Seems like a lot of the classic villains were introduced and then disposed of very quickly. While I don’t expect them to just retell the 616 versions, it’d be nice if some of these villains had a little more meat in their stories.

Going back to that point as it relates to the Goblins, Norman and Harry’s battles with Spidey in 616 were personal and brutal. Neither of the Ultimate versions were given time to develop into that.

Plus, as an aside, being a huge Roderick Kingsley fan, I’m slightly annoyed that Harry was set up as the Hobgoblin, but that’s a personal bias.

Maybe they'll use a dead clone of PP to declare him dead?

If Parker is dead - he can continue on as Spider-Man without fearing for his friends and family. I'd bet that would make one-eye/arm Fury happy.
