Default Latest ToyFare: Honorable Mignola mention

In the latest issue of Toyfare magazine (which I didn't purchase btw but did get the chance to browse through), the Toyfare staff imagine who they'd like future artist inspired DC Direct action figure lines to be inspired by. We've seen plenty of Alex Ross stuff, Darwyn Cooke, Michael Turner (shudder), Ed McGuinness, and others, but this supposes DC Direct would be going with other artist inspired lines even by creators who don't currently work for their company. One of the honorable mentions that I couldn't agree with more is a Mignola line of DC superhero figures. Granted, Mike's made mention in the past that superheroes were never his forte', that doesn't mean he didn't do them damn well when he was doing them.

The example illustration given was the cover to the recent edition of the Cosmic Odyssey TPB. That got me thinking that I would L-O-V-E a Mignola Cosmic Odyssey line!! Since the DC Direct stuff doesn't have the handicap of needing to appeal to a mass audience (ala the Walmart and Toys R Us crowd), why not a niche' oriented line like this? I've got my wallet at the ready. How about the rest of you?

Other honorable mentions (for those who care): a George Perez line, Adam Hughes, Rags Morales, and several others that my Swiss Cheese riddled memory can't come up with currently. Just fun to dream sometimes.

I would love a Mignola action figure line!

Over the past couple of months I've been buying up all the Mignola covers I can find, I now have a couple of folders full, I'd love to see a Mignola Batman action figure, or even a Lobo action figure.

He can take any character and make it his own!

    that's real strange, morna. ;)

I'd be totally into a Mignola superhero line, but I'd probably only buy the Batman figure. batman is love.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not Chris, but DC Direct has already made a Mignola Batman figure. Actually both in statue and action figure form. The figure is based on Mike's artwork from Gotham by Gaslight and came out about a month ago now. You may still be able to find it still on the pegs at your LCS.

Yeh, I have the Gotham By Gaslight one:)
I actually bought Gotham by Gaslight off ebay, just the Mignola segment, not realising there was more (recently collected in TPB, which I also have now).
I think what I would like would be more like his normal batman covers, something more like http://www.ironcowprod.com/plastic/a...la/figure.html
I bought a second Lobster Johnson lately with the intention of customising a Doom that came to Gotham style Batman. I love the Mignola style statue based on the cover of Black and White vol. 2 that they did, but I can't seem to find it anywhere!

Well Chris, if you're using that Mignola Batman custom as inspiration for your figure, you're definitely on the right track! Good luck.

Right. 'Cause rather then doing new Hellboy stories with the
time he won't be working on Hellboy2, Mignola should be designing
    DC Direct toys.

I think a MM action figure line would go over great! I love my MM Batman Black & White statue. Maybe somthing along those lines-
