Default Robin Hood...new BBC Tv series by the folks behind Dr Who..

The first episode has just finished and it was *outstanding*. Very well written, loads of fun and a raise the hackles on your arms moment towards the end. Robin was fab. Guy Of Gisbourne (last seen in BBC1's fabulous parisienne darama 'The Impressionists') was suitably dark and Marion strong and bretahtaking.

    *LOVED* it.

The trailer for Dr Who spin-off Torchwood after it looked superb too.

    Happy days!

Literally by the folk behind the new Doctor Who, as in the specific creative team?

Because if we're talking the Season Two folk, I'm kind of glad I missed it.

As far as I know its a bunch of the same writers for sure, not sure about producers.

I enjoyed Season 2 of Dr Who more than Season 1 I must admit.

But is it as good as the Pagans R Us Clannad themed one from the 80's?

Good man! The Michael Praed version is still the best Robin Hood that I have ever seen (yes I own those DVDs too).

As for tonights show, it was good in places but poor in others. Robin seems decent if a little bland, Much is flat out annoying, the other Merry Men were annonymous. Gisbourne was absolutely spot on and Keith Allan was obviously having fun as the Sheriff. IMO the jury is out on Marion. The plot was slow with not a lot happening in the first 20 minutes and the scene with the ditch digger and his daughter was flat out embarrasing. However the action at the end was fast paced and exciting.

Overall it shows some promise but it could be better and will really have to improve if it is to better Robin of Sherwood. After all "Nothing is forgotten, Nothing is ever forgotten

How well does it stand up against Maid Marian And Her Merry Men? ;)

Which probably is why it sounded like someone yawning over a keyboard.

I'm sorry, but Mel Brooks has spoiled all other Robin Hoods for me.

He did that to me in 1975.

"Once upon a time when things were rotten
Not just food, but also kings were rotten
    Everybody kicked the peasants.
Things were bad and that ain't good
    Then came Robin Hood

Soon a band of merry men he'd gotten.
They wore outfits made of plain green cotton.
    Helping victims was their business.
Boy oh boy was business good.
    Good for Robin Hood

They laughed, they loved, they fought, they drank.
They jumped a lot of fences.
They robbed the rich, gave to the poor,
Except what they kept for expenses.

So when other legends are forgotten
We'll remember back when things were rotten.
    Yay for Robin Hood!

Errol's '38 effort is the best Bob Hood fillum I've seen.
