Default Does the Post-INFINITE CRISIS DCU feel that different from the Pre-INFI-CRISIS DCU?

Several months have passed since INFINITE CRISIS wrapped up, and now, the hardcover compilation is available. So far, does the Post-INFINITE CRISIS DCU feel that different from the Pre-INFINITE CRISIS DCU?

Although INFINITE CRISIS did catalyze several big changes for a number of characters, it still more or less feels like the Pre-INFINITE CRISIS DCU. Twenty years ago, the difference between the Post-COIE and the Pre-COIE DCU seemed more obvious and apparent...at least from my perspective.

In 1986, it really did feel like the DCU had been completely dismantled and rebuilt; in 2006, it feels adjusted, but not actually rebuilt.

I haven't noticed a significant change in the universe. I think this has largely to do with the lack of a knowledge of changes in the universe. It also has to do with everyone seemingly remembering the event as it happened. So, no, I don't think the universe is that much different.

Post-IC isn't all that much different to pre-IC, but then, I don't think it was meant to be. There are the obvious changes to Wonder Woman's history, restoring her role in the JLA. There's also the restoration of Joe Chill as Batman's parent's killer. Unlike CoIE, though, the changes here have been minimal history-wise.

I think most of the changes we've seen have been more character driven, and features predominantly in the OYL titles, with Catwoman having a baby, the Titans completely changed, GA as mayor, Superman's new abilities, Batman's personality shift etc.

Certainly. If you feel bringing back what came before, i.e. the Silver Age, is change.

Some minor details are different, but the books read exactly the same.

    Not really.

I just feel as if IC was a decent attempt to adjust the DCU. But not really an attempt to rebuild the DCU like after COIE. Although the fallout of IC has brought about some very interesting stories that are a bit more character driven than say what we saw after COIE, I can't say I feel that the DCU in general is all that different than pre-IC.

    Just a bit more Silver Age-ish. :)

Yes, it feels different, but there isn't a lot that's changed. Superman more or less feels the same, as does Green Arrow and Lantern, but Batman has changed a lot (for the better) and The Flash too (for the worse).

He's not as dark as pre-IC. Supposedly.
Although that is a bit of a false argument considering that, IMO, Batman only got really dark in the last two years as part of the build up to IC.

The Dan Dido DCU feels different from the DCU when Mike Carlin was in charge, but I wouldn't say there's really that much difference pre and post Infinite Crisis, except for the Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman books, where Dido has clearly spent some time reajusting.

The only real change is that much of the DCU has been revitalised, in part because we've got some great teams on books and in part because some of the current concepts are great.

I know that pre-IC I was reading hardly any DC, but now I'm reading a lot and happier for it.

To me the biggest difference is now DC sees the need to put out really good quality books from there to major franchises and putting some of the best writers and artist on them such as the Bat-Books and Superman books.

I think Infinite Crisis had about as much impact on the DC universe as Zero Hour.

As far as I can tell, for the most part the changes occured in everyone's past without really changing their present. So all they really did is retcon a few people's backstory. That truthfully amounts to very little change (at least from what we can tell so far). But as someone else said, I don't think it was meant to be that different.

Though I will say that a few heroes have gone through some fairly big changes. Aquaman and Wonder Woman's current status quo is pretty different post IC.

Yes, it's different. The overall tone of the books seems to have been made more all ages. This is most evident in Wonder Woman. Back when Rucka was writing it, it was about Diana and the Greek Gods. It was literate and it wasn't for kids (they wouldn't know who Athena, Ares, et al were). Now it's just another superhero comic. Batman, pre-IC didn't really hang with Robin anymore. Now they're together almost all the time.

The only exception I know of is Hawkgirl, who literally appeared in her bra in every issue Howard Chaykin drew except one.
