    Default Squadron Supreme

I just picked up the first Issue of Squadron Supreme. I have to say it kept me interested. But I am still a tad bit confused on who everyone is. I have read the wiki and they really didn't up date much. I know as much as they printed on wikipedia. Can someone clear up some issues I am havin' with them?

    1. Is Squadron Supreme in the 616 or the this called Earth-S
    2. Are there more then the characters listed on wiki that are in Squadron Supreme.
    3. What esle should I know (that you think) that would help me gasp a better understandin' of Squadron Supreme.
    4. Where can I find a short summarized page of the characters orgin.

    1. they are their own dimension. to make it an analogy; the Supreme Power Universe is to the Ultimate Universe what the classic Squadron Supreme universe is to the 616-verse.

    2. i haven't checked the wiki but they probably didn't list everyone. there are characters who haven't appeared yet; except for in a glimpse of the future.

    3. it's like Smallville if the military had found Clark, rounded up the other altered humans, and made them a public superteam. it's basically an attempt at making superheroics realistic/what would happen in our world if a superpowered alien crashed to earth.

    4. sorry, i have no idea. wiki should be kind of useful in that regard. is there anyone in particular you're looking for?

The first issue isn't their first tale. The origins of the major players are featured in Supreme Power. That is a MAX series, so if swearing, extreme violence, nudity and disturbing themes bother you, you shouldn't get it. Most of the characters origins (Everyone besides Nighthawk, Hyperion, Zarda, Doctor Spectrum, and Amphibian) don't have detailed origins yet.

There are several printings of the 12 issue mini-series. I got the first one that is supposed to have Mark Gruenwald's ashes in it. It's the one with the Alex Ross art on the cover.

There is also a new trade that collects other appearances by the SS, all but one of the these stories are set after the mini-series.

    Many of you were confused.

The ORIGINAL Squadron Supreme limited series written by the late Mark Gruenald pre-dates even Watchmen and Kingdom Come.whereby it shows the effect when superheroes took over the world. It's in their own universe but it regular crosses over to the 616 universe and infact, the squadron regularly team up/fought with the Avengers. A followup trade, Squadron Supreme: Death of a universe was also released.

Then about 2-3 years ago, Marvel decided to let JMS 'Ultimatised/modernised' the Squadron Supreme with the title 'Supreme Power' under the MAX imprint. This book do not take place in the original SS universe or the 616 or the Ultimate universe but is in a universe of its own. The series ran for 18 issues (with 3 spin-minis, Dr Spectrum, Hyperion, Nighthawk) until Marvel rebooted (and 'kiddified') the series with the new #1 and retitle the series as 'Squadron Supreme' which is the current series.

In the foreseeable future, The Squadron Supreme will be crossing with the Ultimates in a limited series called 'Ultimate Power' where the Ultimates will meet with the Squadron Supreme.

    Hope all these helps.

If you like the current SS series you need to go out and get the trades for the MAX series (Supreme Power)...trades 1, 2, & 3 are out now (4 is coming in November) as well as the Nighthawk and Hyperion minis.

I absolutely loved the MAX series and was bummed when they moved it because I knew it was going to change and not be as on the edge as it had been...that said I am enjoying the current SS series, although I'm disappointed that Gary Frank left and am unsure whether I'll like Deodato's take on the characters.

The current Squadron Supreme is in Reality-39116. The original Squadron Supreme, or "Earth-S" or "Other-Earth", as it has been called, is in Reality-712.
