Deadpool, I think, is "officially" 3/4 Liefeld and 1/4 Nicieza.

(New Mutants #98: Art by Liefeld, Plots by Liefeld, and Scripting by Nicieza.)

I'm gonna give it 50/50 though. Without the scripting, Deadpool wouldn't have his original personality (Fabes also wrote him in his 1993 miniseries in addition to X-Force).

Fabian does conflicted characters well. In the Burnt Offering his dialogue between Cable and Cyclops is wonderful. His Cap/Cable dialogue in #25 is very good and deep stuff. He makes it sound natural as opposed to someone like Claremont who at times make it sound like a Shakespearean play. Not that Claremont's stuff isn't great either, I'm not bringing that in here, I'm just say Fabian has a way of making it all flow. I loved issue #30 when Wade and Nate were talking about who's side they were on. After Cable leaves Wade says to him,"as if I had to ask which side you would be on". That one simple line was great. It gave you an understanding of both sides. If this book is cancelled I might actually cry...well not really but man I hope it goes to #100 and beyond.

Default The Reign of Cable and Deadpool

I just read it again and I love what's being done with Nate's character.

Sometimes underestimated in the grand power scheme of the MU, he's easily one of the most powerful and cunning characters in the Mu.

I've love to see him take it to Thanos. The gravimetric powers probably wouldn't do since they're tech based and Thanos always finds a way to sabotage thanks to convenient plot devices. But the planet level TK would be awesome against Thanos and I'm sure Nate could get a win or at least a stalemate, after one hell of a slobber knocker though.

I wonder if he's ever going to get his TK powers back...there's gotta be someway to regulate the psionic overload.....X-man found it...why not Cable?

Gravimetric field works fine against tool Secret Service agents, but against tech wreckers like Magneto and Thanos one's probably going to need more.

I've just realized how powerful Nate was in the burnt offering...he was fighting my main man the Surfer, reassembling everything that they were destroying, broadcasting a telepathic screen field across the world, and holding up providence at the same time.

The Xmen and those shield punks couldn't touch him.

Now that's some power.....If he had his full power not being siphoned off it might even give him the edge against Norrin, much as I hate to say it.....I'd say the Surfer would still win, but it would be more uncertain than ever.

I wounder if Fabs will give him back his high level TK. I think it's inevitable that he needs it again.

This issue was pretty brilliant. It's a shame that Cable isn't taking a higher role in Civil War because I think he's smarter than Captain America.

I mean, Nicieza is totally making Cable - I can't believe I'm saying it - but someone I actully want to read. He's freakin' interesting ever since CDP and that's a good thing.

Deadpool's non-yellow speech bubble was a great touch. This book was all seriousness, but still managed to make me chuckle.

I absolutely pay too little for this book at $2.99......

I'd have loved to have seen the following hilarious exchange, which would have definitely changed Deadpool's mind:

"Thanks to your exemplary service as an Agent of the SHRA, Deadpool, we wish to promote you to our brand-new super-hero task force!"

"Alright! Here's to defending society against the evils represented by the dastardly CAPTAIN AMERICA and his motley crew of dangerous (though unsettlingly sympathetic) criminals! Who am I playing with, today? Come on out, my fellow good--"

    *sees Bullseye, Taksmaster, Jack-O-Lantern, etc.*

    "--guys."

    *stares at his teammates*

"...aaaaaaAAW! I picked the wrong side, didn't I?!"

Heh. I wonder how Deadpool would react to knowing he's not exactly on the good guys' side.

He has probably done worse things than all of them put togther. Weapon X doesn't raise no mommas boys. He would probably be a bit happy that they get the same chance to reform and make a difference that he is getting, plus they can totally kick some ass.

I see them happy about the latter, laughing at the former.

This issue took me back to everything I loved about Deadpool's solo run. I love it when writers actually take the time to do something with Deadpool's character rather than just use him as the eternal comedy relief routine.

And that's a tough balancing act too. A lazier writer could easily just make the series basically a Cable series with Deadpool there as his comedic sidekick.

But this truelly is the Cable & Deadpool series, because Deadpool gets substance. You can especially see it in this issue.

The civil war tie-ins are the first time i ever bought a deadpool comic and im already a fan, its just so funny. issue 30 was the funniest of the 3 i've read so far.

And wasnt that a typical reaction from a weak politician facing danger, a danger which wouldnt badly hurt or kill him in any way, but a danger to his votes. How people like that make my blood boil!

Fabian has done an excellent job of making this co op book.

All while hitting the characters dead on, and evolving them at the same time.

Again, they kind of are his characters, but he has still done a great job of putting these two back on the map... with incredible story telling to boot.
