I really loved Todd's art of the Spider-Man character but does anyone else look back and dislike his artwork of Peter Parker?
That is one of the reasons why I can't totally get into McFarlane's amazing run, or his early Spider-Man issues.

I find his art to be pretty cool and dynamic, but he always struggled with simple human faces.
Probably why Spawn never had one.
I never minded McFarlane's Peter. No where near as good as his Spider-man, but I still liked it. He had a unique style that I really feel revolutionized the character. You also have to remember that he was drawing in the 80's when fashion was crazy. It fits well in the decade.
I also think his MJ was one of the best I have seen in a long while. Up until his run her character's appearance had remained almost the same. When he came on he really made her look the part of a model. Maybe his Peter wasn't that great, but his MJ made up for it.
I am kinda a biased opinion though. I think McFarlane was the best spidey artist, probably ever.

Those were the days to bad he doesnt draw comics regularly. If Marvel wasnt so greedy back then and let those guys have do what the do now as far as not being so anal about the art maybee he would still be doing some limited art at marvel. But as for his Peter it was great for those times and posted ealier he changed how spidey is drawn today. All artist before him drew him like Romita Sr, he took some of the Ditko style with his own style and drew in my opinion the best Spidey ever. He also changed MJ into the model she is suposed to be. Maybee one day he will do a Spidey/Spawn crossover.
he wasn't bad, but I always thought Larsen was a much better Spider-man artist.
I'd probably agree.... although I think McFarlane's Spider-Man (not his PP) is marginally ahead for mine... my favorite Larsen was the return of the sinister six... that was really great.Originally Posted by Alan2099

I feel the same way, Will.
I just... I don't know, I read a few spidey issues drawn by McFarlane and I never really got into the art.
I was about 12 or so when Todd was doing Amazing and I HATED him. He was the first artist I ever hated because of the way he drew Peter and his hair. I grew to accept it over time, but yeah, I can see how someone wouldn't like it.
It just occured to me that Marvel should try to release his 40 something Spider-man issues as a single Omnibus edition. It would make them money, and the material is good enough (at least the art is) to support it.
I thought (when I was a kid) that he was the only artist to capture how Peter really looks like, which to me was the cartoon version from the 80s.
I really have to say that I loved all of Todds work, even his portrayal of Peter. It wasw contemporary, and went well with his Mary Jane. Todd was probably the first artist that I had seen that drew my attention. at the time there was a lot of John Romatia, Walt Simonson, Sal Buscama and his brother John. All great in their own right, but Todd brought something different to the plate. And actually it was his Incredible Hulk that did it for me first (Now that was a Hulk!)
