    Default No More Mutants: aftermath...

We all know those three little words that completely changed the entire Marvel Universe into what we know it as today for all mutant kind. But digging a little deeper on an evolutionary level, did Wanda cease any further spawning of mutants from the entire human/mutant population from that point forward?

The definition of “No More Mutants” can be taken in two ways. The first could be interpreted as eliminating the current number of mutants, and second could be referring to no additional mutants (to be born).

Since M-Day, has there been any reports of:

    1) New mutants being born.
    2) An outbreak of suicides from depowered mutants.
    3) Experimentation on depowered mutations to regain their powers.
    4) Any likelihood that Wanda will reconsider her actions and undo them.
    5) What do you expect the outcome from the depowered mutants to be once Wanda is found?

    1) not from ordinary humans, at least. I think Wanda erased the potential to give birth to mutants in humans, but I don´t see why a mutant couple couldn´t get mutant children.

    2) It is quite likely. After all Wing committed suicide after losing his powers, so there are probably a lot of ex-mutants who snapped after losing their powers.

3)The only example of this that I know of is Quicksilver´s current attempts to repower mutants.

    4)If she´s still nuts, not a chance.

5)Well, people like Cyclops or Beast would probably react with pitty, but the majority would likely want to slit her throat on the spot.

One way or another, it will get undone eventually.

Technically, she has only removed the X-gene from the mutants which she depowered - and that probably includes herself, as well.

Without that gene, no, the likelihood of an ex-mutant producing a mutant offspring is not really likely.

However, existing mutants should still be able to breed more mutants. I see no reason, or information provided so far to contradict this.

X-Factor still looks like the best bet for ending the ongoing 'what Wanda ruined' epoch in X-book history.

A lot of mutant powers got tossed into the sun with Collective Man/Xorn, but some of it is in Ms. Marvel and some is back in the poor slob that it started with. I expect all of those to get buck wild eventually.

Pietro has a creepy religious bend to his repowerings. I postulate that in his madness, Pietro think's Wanda's god and his control over the Mists is connected to whether or not he thinks Wanda would want them to get thier powers back.

I'm hoping Wanda comes back sane and fixes what she broke so as the redeem a character that's been torn to shreds over the past few years.

I don't think it will get undone completely! 90% of the depowered mutants were complete unknowns. 5% had names but who misses them. That last 5% will be revived by some writter in the future who misses one of their favorites.

Wonder what would happen if someone told her there all still some mutants left  Would she become homicidal Wanda all over again? ;)
I doubt she'll ever reverse what she's done simply because Marvel wants those mutants to be powerless, even though there is no plausable reason for her not to when she returns, I think she's due to make a comeback, not sure though. Anyway, if she does they'll probably bring her back sane and it is likely to involve Wiccan and Speed in some way, who I think were the main cause of her losing her sanity in the first place. I didn't like the decimation event much (may drop New X-Men due to it), especially since Jubilee was depowered (curious as to how long that will last though lol), I'd probably be more annoyed though if they brought her back in like a year and she changed things again, she's done way more than enough IMO :) Still Wanda returning to finish the job, flinging hex bolts round the Xavier Mansion like there's no tomorrow would be quite interesting...take that 198! :evilsmile

I've also wondered why Wanda didn't just get rid of all the evil mutants in the world. After all, she knew her father was a tyrant, so why make everyone else suffer?

In a sense, isn't that a hate crime?

I think it's only going to matter what the writers and editors say what matters.

But I see no reason why mutant babies can't be born. Wanda took away the powers of existing mutants only. There's no comfirmation that she took away the potential in mutants and even ordinary humans to reproduce mutants.

Probably because she was just really, really delusional at that moment. She obviously took away the powers to the people that mattered most in her life:Magneto, Quicksilver and sister (at least in HoM reality) Polaris.

Everyone after that was pure randomness. *With the help of editorial decision-making ;) *

So it looks like the human race is at an evolutionary dead end.

To make matters worse, the "extinction gene" that Morrison spoke of may still be ticking away in homo sapiens. So, humans can't evolve into anything else, and they're genetically programmed to die off in four to five generations.

(Beast hinted to human authorities that he had an antidote to the extinction gene, but this plotline--to the best of my knowledge--was never followed up on. So far as I know, Beast may have been bluffing, since no further story showed him "curing" humanity of the extinction gene. If anybody has an update--with references, of course--I'd like to hear it.)

    Peace,

I heard they're going to reveal that everyone misheard wanda. She actually said 'no more mute ants' once they figure that out all the depowered mutants will repower and ants will be able to talk.
