Default why did wolvie ever leave department h for?

in the original x-men series i always thought that wolverine left because he didnt like taking orders from the government, even tho he felt he owed the hudsons obviously it wasnt enough to be a government lackey.
but im reading wolverine 144# (wich seems to take place before wolverines first comic appearance )
and he doesnt seem to mind working for department h and feels a heavy sense of gratitude for the hudsons saving him.
are they ever gonna figure this out?

He left Alpha Flight to join the X-Men on the mission to save the original X-Men. He stayed due to a few reasons. These included his affection towards Jean and, I suppose, the lack of legality that normally limits his actions.

It was stated in a later story that he left Department H because he had secretly fallen in love with Heather Hudson, and he saw joining the X-Men as a way to get away from a hot redhead he had a doomed crush on. Smart move.

Yeah, Wolvie and his doomed crushes... his dead gf's or wives. It's a wonder he even had enough time to have a kid.

he was never technically in alpha flight they didnt form until after he had left but of course james hudson had plans for him to lead the group.
he didnt know jean when the professor first approached him.
not sure what you mean exactly by lack of legality?
he had more rights as a agent of department h than as an x-men but of course less freedom.

He was strongly implied to have fathered a kid in the Savage Land in Wolverine: The Jungle Adventure. Also, Scott Lobdell intended Flex from Alpha Flight to be Logan's son, but it was never confirmed in continuity.

Actually, Wolvie was a member of the first version of Alpha Flight, simply called The Flight. No, he didn't know Jean when Xavier first recruited him. However, he came to know her shortly thereafter. When working for the government, there would undoubtedly be some kind of law to follow. The best the X-Men have is an unwritten moral code.

ive never heard or read of him being in alpha flight or "the flight" can you send me a link to something that proves it please?
he was a top secret agent for the government morals dont have any factor as long as you play by there rules
obviously if you send a man like wolverine on as assignment trying to make him adhere to a moral code ( i assume you mean killing?) is like sending a wild animal to the zoo.

Don't follow the link within the article. It leads to some Asimov thing.

And what I'm saying is that maybe Wolverine was tired of playing by their rules. Maybe joining the X-Men wasn't the best idea in terms of becoming more free, though.

The current Wolverine origins storylines revolve around Wolverines quest to find his son.

Emma Frost revealed to Wolvie (issue 4-5) that he has a son that apparently the gov may be using against him.

yeah ok it must be some retcon that took place that i didnt know about.
as for the second yes thats exactly what i said basically he got tired of being ordered around
even tho he takes orders in x-men he only chooses to he can leave at any time or choose not to follow an order wich hes done on occasion.

the thing that was confusing for me was that in the wolverine book i just mentioned they showed him taking orders gladly,
so this makes it confusing as to when he decided to become his own man or maybe he was only pretending to be loyal to department h but saw an opening to be a free man and ran with it?
