    Default THUNDERBOLTS #106 - Review & Spoilers

T-BOLTS #106, by Nicieza, Grummett, and Erskine, out today.

The T-Bolts versus the Squadron for all the marbles. There are double and triple crosses, and much fun is had by all. Radioactive Man vs. Hyperion, Zemo vs. Grandmaster, super-powered ninja monks not quite living up to their reputation . . . good stuff.

Incidentally, Fabian? "There was one in Cambodia that was sealed a couple years ago." Excellent use of your own continuity.

Anyway, it's a fine issue. I hope the CIVIL WAR crossovers helped with sales, but I can't say I'm sorry to see things get back on track.

Unless Hyperion has some weakness to a certain radiation wavelength I don't see how he could handle Hyperion. But, the fight between Zemo and Grandmaster must have been cool.

Good issue. It is my first non-Civil War tie-in issue, and it was jam packed with action, and plot twists as stated above.

In answer to your question about Hyperion and Radioactive Man. He out smarts him. Radioactive Man says that he has faced Hyperion before, and has isolated the radiation frequency that disrupts his abilities, then proceeds to drain his power away.

I haven't a clue. I am not all that familiar with either character, so your guess is as good as mine. I pretty much gave almost an exact quote from the book. That is how it went down though. If you want I will quote it exactly, if that is allowed.

From the Marvel Handbook: "Hyperion is vulnerable to an isotope of lead, whose particles of decay (def: "radiation") serve to dampen the quasi-nuclear reactions within his own body. While in itself it could not kill, it could render him susceptible to other forms of injury."

The real Hyperion was a Superman clone (with a supermanish weakness) that was retconned to be an eternal. The argonite (I think that's what his kryptonite is called) weakness doesn't exactly make sense given he's an eternal, but it was there before he was retconed to be an eternal so it still exists.

But that said, this is a different Hyperion. Not sure if he's suppossed to be an eternal from a microverse planet or what... but I guess he has the same weaknesses.

Maybe Marvel is just ignoring the eternal retcon or something.

The Squadron Sinister Hyperion is an artificial being created from non-living extradimensional matter. Grandmaster gave him the same powers as the real Hyperion.

Now I havent been following the story as closely as I should have been. But the last I saw the criminal Hyperion, he had been killed in battle with the real Hyperion back in issue 8 of the Squadron Supreme mini-series. Has there been any explanation as to how he's running around alive and well in Thunderbolts?

this Hyperion is from the microverse. he's not the same one that got killed or hooked up with the Exiles.

So that makes 4 different Hyperions.

I think my head is going to explode.

Hmmm... after reading it, I think it was a pretty fun read overall.

Though I gotta say I was disappointed in one aspect... I thought the fight between the Squadron and the TBolts was kind of a one sided cumberstop. I was sort of hoping it would be a bigger cooler fight... though realistically what we got is what I should have expected to get. The TBolts so badly outgunned the Squadron, the 20 second cumberstomp we got was probably 10 seconds longer than it needed to be. The Squadron might as well have been dressed as super powered ninja monks.

Ah well, we can't have everything we wanted. Other than that, it was a cool read as always.

It should be in UK stores Thursday. However, it's not an official Civil War tie-in.
