I don't care, but it needs to be fixed.

I never read the original story about that. Was it established the beatings have been happening for years? or was it a one time thing? I know in Ultimates, it had been going on since College. What about 616?

If it was a one time thing, then I think too much has already been dealt on the subject. Spiderman had a breakdown and slapped MJ around too. She's a normal human. Wasp is a superhero.

I don't have as much sympothy for Superheroes who get beat up. She should have just Wasp stung his sorry butt. She can fight Dr. Doom and Ultron but PYM gives her trouble?
I wouldn't call it Blackmail. I prefer Extortion! The "X" makes it sound Exciting!

In 616 Hank verbally abused Jan and struck her out of anger once.

It was a one-time thing, and too much has been made of it. At the time of the incident, he was so far gone that he was building a huge Adamantium robot to attack the Avengers so that he could swoop in, save the day, and get back in good standing. He backhanded Jan when she interrupted.

Too many times since, this one incident has been used by one lazy or stuck-in-the-past-writer after another to use him as a symbol for everything the writer hates about domestic abuse. Typecasting is a cheap substitute for character development.

Frankly, I think the robot was a bigger deal than the slap. It could've done a lot more than leave a nasty bruise to lots of people he cared about. While Hank was way off the deep end for a while, Austen and others portrayal him as a batterer is way off base.

BOT, isn't Hank's first wife, Maria, still borg-ed to a mainframe in Hungary since the "Tales to Astonish" arc in West Coast Avengers? You'd think with the fall of the Soviet Empire he couldn've pencilled in some time to find a way to reverse her condition..

I have, and Hank only hit Jan out of anger once in Avengers #213. Tell me in which other issues Hank struck Jan out of anger then.

He was forced to take on the Avengers in #217 and may have hit her there, but it was definitely not as a "serial abuser." And I know he struck her in an earlier issue, IIRC, to knock her out to keep her from getting hurt; again, not in an abusive manner.

Ever since he was created just to be beat up by the Serpent Society....

"Say, Bill, why don't you come over tonight and help me try to regain my growing powers?
And, remember to walk at night and don't worry about those guys wearing serpent heads, milling around outside my house... they won't hurt a black guy walking through a white suburb late at night in the mid-1960s...."

He hit her once. While mentally imbalanced. As someone said above she fights freaking supervillains all the time. I'm in no way condoning domestic violence but Hank apologised and was torn up about it for AGES.
That done everyone had forgiven forgotten and moved on.

    Then came Austen. Sigggh.

As for Hank hitting Jan... while I don't EVER condone violence against women, it did add a certain edge to his character... and I agree too much has been made of it (at least in the regular Marvel Universe).

I think it makes you question what characteristics are accptable in heroes.

Anyway, I'm blaming Millar for the resurrection of the "Hank's a wife-beater" movement. I'm pretty sure that issue of The Ultimates came out before Austen's run on The Avengers, and reminded him of how to write like a maroon. Johns actually tried working them up towards getting remarried. Yeah, Janet said no, but they were together again. There's absolutely no reason she'd screw Hawkeye after that except for crappy writing. And lo and behold!
    Go !@#$ yourself.

this will be the seventh time i've tried to explain it. Wanda was messing with their heads. that's why Jan hooked up with Clint. the Ultimates has nothing to do with the 616. and Jan, sure as hell, wasn't going to marry him.

Maybe he didn't apologise but you can tell he was cut up about it and sorry. I don't recall the issue I think he comes out in a costume with variations of all his previous incarnations and someone points out there's no Yellowjacket
"But that's the costume I.. hit you in"
and she's all "oh honey! You were a mentalist it's ok"

    I paraphrase.
