You mean X-Corp ? I always got confused between the two but recently confirmed X-Corporation is another team altogether founded by Xavier to bring good PR in light of the deeds done by X-Corp.

Sigh...and that is how Sean Cassidy may be remembered last, not really fitting.

I think Monet is/ should be explained as a construct of the gestalt will of her two younger siblings and that that has been the case all along. this would be much easier to explain the character and would actually tie Lobdell's original idea for the character into her preexisting history as well.

Much in the way that Jamie Braddock has his construct of Betsy running around the MU thinking she is the original (and not hurting anyone's feelings that she's not) I feel that it is time to explore the possibility of this being the case with Monet.

Hypothesis: Unable to be apart from each other for even minutes without enduring great mental turmoil, the twins- Nicole (highly autistic, brilliantly genius, mute, beholding of many mutant powers) and Claudette (unnaturally mature for her young age, mystical, articulate, protective of her sister) use their vast mental abilites to construct a body, a vessel for themselves to simultaneously observe the world through: Monet- their favorite artist and a replica of of their ideal womanly version they have of themselves. Much like Karma their operating of Monet comes with a price, as they are incapacitated while controlling the body but it is a small price to pay for getting a chance to experience a life they would otherwise never get to live.

As Monet, they imbue their body with a personality, and an autonomy of thought, but not so much as "she" ever realizes the true nature of her being.
Monet interjects herself using her mental abilities into the St. Croix family, who accept her as one of their own and much to the twins delight, because of their varied talents, becomes their father's favorite- gaining his approbation.

When Monet becomes a prisoner of their older brother Marius, the twins must use their gestalt ability to physically merge, what with having their construct magically locked in inescapable body of Penance and attempt to begin a dangerous life as an imposter in order to maintain the status quo, all along attempting to reach the realm that their real body is being held captive under the tutelage of Gateway. Soon however, they find that playing dolly with their new form is too much fun, they enroll in Xavier's, and all but forget their lost "sister". Perfect time for Gateway to show up with Monet's body calling her Penance.
The rest is self explanatory.

All in all- Monet is like a flesh and bone Astral projection of the twins who Cartier St. Croix is probably shelling out hella bucks to the Xavier Foundation to keep safe and secret while they maintain their daily life as Monet- who is blissfully unaware of her actual situation.

Monet fans! When X-Factor ends or is revamped, Monet will disappear into character limbo.

we need to campaign hard and fast for the evolution of the character becoming the new Marvel Girl of the MU proper with ties to the X-men (she can be lots of things remember?)!!

Don't let her fade into obscurity! Becoming Ms. Marvel's intern is a good way to keep her around and obnoxiously superior just the way we like her.

Based on the X-Factor Regenesis cover image, X-Factor is just gaining two new cast members, and Monet still seems to be going strong. I wouldn't worry about it.
