Scott - I'm in awe of your anatomy fore-shortening skills - you're a real pro.
And the expression on Power Girl's face is fun.
Looking forward to the color version as well.

Wow! That's so dynamic.
And the hands. Maaaaan I can not draw hands for ANYTHING. So awesome!
I really like the wink. Nice detail.
howyadoin?
Pardon the crap coloring and inking job - maybe I'll improve it later on.
Man, I can't believe I designed something like this - it's SO old school! But I think Old School when I think iconic. I thought about paring it down to silhouettes as is my usual design style, but I remembered that as a kid, I loved drawing all the piping and banded details on costumes like Cockrum's Princess Projectra or even Neal Adam's Supergirl - so I edged the cape. It'll make her more recognizable even when drawn from behind!
Anyhow, short summary: no changing origins, no revamping the character, no breast reductions, no reinventing the wheel...just improving her current look. I think Power Girl's white outfit and breast cutout detail are iconic, and should be kept. But I imagine her more as DC's cross between She-Hulk and Ms.Marvel: more personality, and pretty muscular. So I figured that I should just tone down the mannishness of her current look (the dark blue gauntlets and foldover boots are just too butch) and expose more skin, yet not turn her into Wonder Woman. A nicely iconic superheroine has to have something flapping about her when artists draw her, so a cape is in order since Power Girl's hair is so short (Wonder Woman has hair down to her ass and a lasso - lotsa movement there). And turning her boots and gloves gold keep her looking heroic AND feminine, although the boots might look good in red too (but it's too DC... I couldn't do it!). But coloring the underside of her cape a dark blue makes sure she's got enough contrast when drawn on a page. Or at least, I think so...

Perfecto Bakla. Good thing for the rest of us that you didn't enter into the contest. We'd be screwed. Hehe.
Oddly enough, I started to do my cape exactly like that, bakla, with it connected to the rest of the outfit. But I didn't want the cape white on the outside, so I scrapped it. Nicely done. Although I've noticed that the majority of the designs this round aren't really all that different from the original, which makes me wish I had gone with one of my other designs a bit. But I still think the one I used was the best one I did and that it fit the goal of the challenge, so I'll live with it.
Looks like I'll be joining the ranks of this thread unless 7 or more people come out of the woodwork and vote for me in the next 3 and a half hours. :)

Gonzo, you might not be eliminated just yet - don't count yourself out.
And yeah, there's only so muuch iconic costumery going around. My own preferred costume redesign for Power Girl is completely different and not iconic whatsoever, but I posted this version in observance of the challenge parameters. Like you, I started out with a design very similar to AdoraSpintriae but decided against it because my rendition looked to me more like a space station uniform than an iconic superhero.

And the inking and colouring gives it the look of those costume concept sketches they do for movies and television series.
Oh my bakla! That is simply amazing! Makes me ashamed to post my own.
So here's the revision I drew of Power Girl.
I guess what I wanted, was to keep the unforgettable cleavage area, but change the cut-out shape a bit. I felt she still needed a cape, but one not as long and one that was attached right into the costume. I thought best to keep the blue/gold/white color scheme as it seems rather iconic to me.
And I have a question. Will there be a second "season" of the competitive version of CBRunway? Because I sure would like to join in!

Wow! that's great, AnkaleRa! I really like the cape and I think the whole design has an Egyptian feel that is quite cool.
I would assume there will be a second season of Project CBRunway. If matt doesn't want to run it I wouldn't mind running it. I've had fun designing and I'd love to see other people trying their hand at it.
Yes, barring any problems that the NEF mods might have, I intend for this to become an annual event. Hopefully the success of this first season brings out more designers next time. :)Originally Posted by AnkaleRa
