    Default X-Men 2099

i love this book so much i could go on and on about the classic writing and art not to mention the great characters and powers (how can anyone think bloodhawk doesnt rule?) also does anyone know why it was cancelled so early?
ive only seen a few people online whove read and enjoyed this series wich is such a shame i think if it were better promoted it might have fared better..
so i was wondering who here likes it?

I might start reading this. 2099 is an interesting concept, at least in the recent Exiles issues.

X-Men 2099 was running when I first started buying comics roper. But sadly due to my meagre childhood finances it was not something I could afford at the time. And by the time it was within my reach it had been cancelled. :(

It was always something I intended to chase up later, but never did. I'd be interested to see if people thought it was worth my while?

It got three years out of it plus a spin-off title, so it didn't do that bad. I just think the whole 2099 line wasn't doing as well as Marvel wanted. (God knows why they thought that 2099: World of Tomorrow might help drawing readers. That one is high on my list of worse comicbooks ever.) But it's an alternate future, so there always are readers who are not going to read it because "it doesn't matter" or "it's not in continuity" regardless of the interesting storylines and good characters.

I didn't think Bloodhawk ruled BTW, just not my type of character. But I liked Cerebra, Xián and Timothy.

There were some interesting concepts in it. I liked the fact that it dared to take some storytelling chances... Xi'an and Tim particularly went through incredibly drastic changes as characters rather quickly in the series and never looked back. I mean, at the time it pissed me off (Tim going from relatable guy-next-door character to unhinged "who gives a crap?" tough guy wasn't what I was looking for out of his character), but in retrospect it was a bold move to make. But I think the adventures themselves foundered a bit after the first one or two and lost focus, which probably hurt the book and might have explained the decision to make them official guardians of that mutant city. And I never liked La Lunatica.

I do remember enjoying the story where they came across evidence of powers similar to those of the original X-Men and found that Xi'an's old mentor had gone insane and assembled a group of mutants with similar powers... those guys were kinda cool as one-off villains. The Beast analogue, Monster, was pretty funny.

i loved this book. although Darkhawk was my least fave. him and La Lunatica. Halloween Jack was fantastic. The House of Pain and the collector were great villians too. I liked what happened to Tim too, since it shocked me, especially with Serpentina's storyline being so obvious. and Xian's good hand/bad hand thing rocked as a concept too.

i dont know i just thought bloodhawk was a bad ass i mean he was always there to pull the x-mens fat out of the fryer and yet he was a loner who stood for justice of his area and land.
kind of reminded me of old time western type character one who was bad to the bone but underneath a good guy but he didnt take crap from anyone .

I just couldn't believe they never tried to make Krystalin a descendent of Storm's. I mean, she's black! And a mutant! How could they not be related?! But they never went that route (that I remember, only read about half the series), which I give them credit for.

Who wrote it? For some reason John Francis Moore keeps popping into my head, but I have no idea if that's an accurate memory or not.

He wrote X-Force during their most enjoyable period, the "Road Trippin'" era. Back when they finally felt like the New Mutants again, at least for a little while.

They might retro-actively: I mean Krys was from Wakanda and Storm currently is in Wakanda...

I dug X-Men 2099. It thought it lost steam after awhile. I also thought that when it made those bold character changes---that it followed the characters I didn't care about as much, and the ones I DID like were the ones who disappeared for periods of time. That annoyed me.

The 2099 line was a good idea, and it did well until Marvel started trying to milk it for all it was worth. Spidey, Doom, X-Men and Punisher were all great. And then they started having a 2099 analogue to EVERYONE. Hulk, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, another X-title. They spread the concept too thin, and people stopped caring and the whole line tanked.
Marvel learned well from that mistake, in their perpetuation of the Ultimate titles.
