No one's seemed to notice that the new Abadazad books are being offered in this month's Previews. . . is no one interested anymore?

Yeah, it was discussed briefly in one of the Crossgen threads from earlier in the month.

There was supposed to be some news coming from last weekend's NY Convention, but I couldn't find anything online last night. It does look like Hyperion/Disney is planning on having a HUGE roll out and expects Abadazad to be a big success this year.
Anybody else have better luck finding anything new?
I sat in on the panel and Brenda Bowen from Disney's publishing division (Hyperion) stated the books will be released in novel format with a few illustrated pages between each chapter. They are releasing 3 issues a year but want to do 4 a year. The first two volumes will hit the stores in May and the third sometime in the fall.
Novel format with a few illustrated pages? That sounds a bit different from their original plan. . .I thought they were trying to do something really unique. . .?
Cool. Thanks for the information.Originally Posted by Crazee Creator

I was excited to hear about Abadazad coming out again, until I heard it was going to be a novel format. The thing about it is that they're being written and marketed as children's books, which is great for kids.
But why is it that I have a problem picking up a children's book, but I have no problem reading all these comics?!
crap... the comic format was great! now i'm hesitant to pick it up as a "children's novel"
so are they continuing both Stardust Kid AND Abadazad?
Yes, though I remember seeing something early on saying that SK was a miniseries. Haven't seen that recently, so maybe they've decided to extend it.Originally Posted by GreatLakesAvengers
Hi, guys -- the Hyperion books are combo prose, illustration and comics. I know there's plenty of new comics material in these because I lettered them. The new artwork by Mike is incredible and JM continues weaving a fantastic, fantastic tale!
Sad ABADAZAD news today, linked through LITG.
JM DeMatteis has announced that Disney/Hyperion has decided not to publish any more ABADAZAD books. Not only that, the most recent book that has apparently already been released elsewhere in the world won't be coming out in the US.
Read about it here.
Silver lining: There's a possibility of a new DeMatteis/Ploog project soon, though the details are sketchy.
You know what's really sad about the Abadazad thing? That's the only reason that Disney bought CrossGen! There were other bidders at the auction who wanted to continue to produce comic series for many of the CG titles, using many of the original creators. But Disney blew everybody else out of the water in order to acquire Abadazad--which they never intended to use in its original comic book format--and which they have now quickly discarded altogether!![]()

That's how Rich reported it, and that's what I thought too, but I went back to the DeMatteis blog right before I posted and it says...
...and I'm not sure if that means they're working on a new Stardust Kid project or another completely new project. Either way, good news.Happily, my adventures with mad genius Mike Ploog and our brilliant color artist, Nick Bell, won’t be ending. We’ve already done The Stardust Kid together (look for the collected edition early next year) and we’re talking about a new project that, with luck, we’ll be jumping into in another month or two.
It finished very under the radar. 'Twas a little rushed.
Yeah, I thought of that, too. Kind of sucks.
soooooooooooo... DeMatteis/Ploog don't have the rights to publish new Abadazad elsewhere?
that sux ... :(
