Yeah lord knows Axl really hurt that guy. Rose shouldn't have spent money building a fucking chicken coop in the studio for him to play in !

One of the little record shops I usually shop at had Chinese Democracy. I told the guy running It I had no clue he'd get it. But as he told me he placed an order for his shop (20 CD's) weeks ago and has a stock ready. I was there when 2 guys came in and bought Chinese Democracy and they asked me what tracks I'd recommend.

Since they were older fans I pushed that they'd like "There Was A Time" , "Catcher in the Rye" , "This I Love" and "Prostitute". They had told me Chinese Democracy was on the radio and they loved it. Which led em to buy the album.

I was kinda pleased to see some older fans wanting it.

From another board I hang out at -

Too much November Rain, not enough You Could Be Mine.
Seems a valid point. What's wrong with just rocking the fuck out for a few songs, Axl?

That is a good point...I think Axl really wanted an epic type return. He wanted some kind of great EPIC . As you posted in a review "Not every song has to be EPIC !"

Maybe the next 2-3 albums will have less EPIC type songs. Bach has said Rose has 2-3 albums of material ready . Maybe we'll see less EPIC type songs from Rose on those albums.

Either way....I am a fan of November Rain and the whole mega production and all...so I enjoyed it...

Default Best Buy : "G'n'R deal is Biggest We Have Ever Done."

    http://www.startribune.com/entertain...PQLanchO7DiUsA

    By CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER, Star Tribune

    Last update: November 21, 2008 - 10:28 PM

Among all the rock fans ruminating about the 14-year wait for the new Guns N' Roses album, you won't catch the bosses at Best Buy complaining.

"Right now, in this economy, it's a great time to have music fans so excited about a single album," said Gary Arnold, Best Buy's senior entertainment officer.

It's certainly great for the Richfield-based retail chain: It won the exclusive right to sell "Chinese Democracy," rock's most talked-about record of the past decade, which finally goes on sale Sunday.

    For real.

"It'll be there for sure," Arnold promised GNR fans frustrated by the many delays.

With the 2008 holiday shopping season threatening to be as bleak as a Metallica record, Best Buy hopes fans will rush in Sunday morning to buy "Chinese Democracy" and maybe pick up something pricier as well, like a new flat-screen TV or digital camera.

It's a ploy increasingly used by big-box retailers. Minneapolis-based Target is the exclusive seller of Christina Aguilera's first greatest-hits CD, which hit the Top 10 last week. Wal-Mart enjoyed even hotter sales of AC/DC's new "Black Ice" album, which sold 1.5 million copies via its stores and website only.

"It's a brilliant marketing coup on Best Buy's part," said former Rolling Stone music editor Stephen Davis. "But I'm sure it's costing Best Buy, too."

For an exclusive deal with the Eagles last year, Wal-Mart reportedly paid the band $30 million up front -- nonrefundable -- for 3 million copies of its comeback CD "Long Road Out of Eden."

Arnold would not disclose terms of the GNR deal, which does not include digital downloads (available only via iTunes), but said: "It's one of the biggest [ever] -- probably the biggest one we've done."
Geffen with one stroke basically banked millions of dollars , will keep what the album does on ITunes and cash in (TV/Film wise now). Geffen made a hell a deal it seems....

Does the Eagles own their own record company now ? I can picture them banking it. I wonder how much with a bidding war Geffen made ? $40 million ...$50 Million ?

According to Wikipedia, the label information is "Eagles Recording Company II, Lost Highway".

I imagine Lost Highway would be getting quite a chunk of change out of that $30 million. That's $10 per CD, with a $12 retail price. I'd be surprised if even a band like the Eagles would be pocketing anywhere near that high a percentage of sales.

Probably depends on whether Lost Highway is distributing the back catalog as well.

The album has done well for the Eagles thus far selling wise (1st week 700,000 plus copies sold). I believe this was an Azoff idea comcerning Guns n Roses. Because he worked the Eagles deal out. So he had Wal-Mart & Best Buy competing for it. (I would have picked Wal-Mart personally , more stores...more better marketing ect ect)

It makes what Geffen spent ($13 million) seem little now to what they have done thus far. The album is expected to be the top selling album on ITunes this week.

They may tell Rose to take another 5-6 years and do another album ....
